1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a transgender female teacher, I have received nothing but discriminatory treatment by the principal and other staff members. And that is all because I am a transgender teacher. If you have children that are queer or transitioning into living a life in the opposite gender of the one they were assigned then I would reconsider enrolling my children in Waianae high School. It's funny though because the vast majority of transgender women on Oahu live down here on the West side or they came from this area.Teacher Review2y ago7 Reviews - Maili Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is fine for where it is and the population it tends to. My children are not Asian or Pacific Islander, but have had NO issues in the four years they have attended. They will be in fourth and fifth grades this fall, and other than moving to a different zone, I cannot see any reason to pull them out. They have enjoyed their teachers and classmates each year, and the youngest even go voted into the student council for the coming school year, so any past issues regardinig "non-local" kids seem to have gone away. My kids know prety much what I expect them to know for their ages, so the content of what is taught at Maili Elementary School is up to par.Parent Review13y ago4 Reviews - Waianae Intermediate School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWaianae Intermediate is TERRIBLE. Teachers are lazy and the administration cares more about lining their pockets than the kids. The kids are a little rough around the edges, but have the most heart of any child I have ever taught. Learning is expected, but there are very low expectations for teachers and students. I would never send my child to this school. Most of the teachers are unqualified and have little to no experience. Parent involvement is low. There are great after-school activities, but there is so much emphasis placed on sports and not enough emphasis on learning.Teacher Review12y ago6 Reviews - Anuenue School

"I feel Waianae is a wonderful place to live. I was born and raised in Town, so it’s definitely a different environment. People are friendly and everyone seems to know each other. It’s just a different vibe out here.. The beaches sometimes get crowded and you see some homeless, but their harmless! Traffic can get a little crazy but that’s only because it’s 1 way in, 1 way out!
