About this House

Location extraordinaire! Perfectly situated on one of East Wilmette's most coveted, tree-lined cobblestone streets, just steps from Lake Michigan, Plaza Del Lago, schools, parks, and the Metra, this timeless brick Georgian offers the best of both worlds: historic character and modern luxury. Thoughtfully reimagined in a 2013 gut renovation by Morgante Wilson Architects and recently decorated by the designer/owner (2023), this classic has been completely transformed with meticulous attention to detail, leaving nothing to do but move right in. Behind its iconic 1925 facade, approximately 5,900 square feet of beautifully finished living space awaits. The sunny gracious first floor is designed for everyday comfort and elegant entertaining, featuring a formal foyer, oversized living room, gorgeous dining room, sun-filled family room with walls of windows, and a chef's kitchen straight from the pages of a design magazine--complete with Wolf, SubZero, and Bosch appliances, leathered granite counters, custom cabinetry, and a vaulted breakfast room addition. A mudroom with custom cabinets and powder room complete the main level. Upstairs, the primary suite is a true serene retreat with two walk-in closets and a spa oasis featuring radiant-heated floors, a soaking tub, and a wonderful shower. Two additional spacious bedrooms, a large hall bath, and abundant storage round out the second floor. The third floor tree top haven provides two more bedrooms (or office space) and another full bath--ideal for guests, teens, or work-from-home needs. The finished lower level is a dream, offering multiple recreation areas, an optional bedroom or office, full bath, and laundry, with a dug-out area boasting high ceilings and windows full of natural light. Outside, the professionally landscaped yard with bluestone patio and irrigation system offers the perfect space for play, gathering or quiet relaxation. A 2-car garage, Marvin windows, whole-house generator, 200+ AMP electrical, Buderus boiler, and smart wiring for sound and internet are just a few of the many upgrades that make this home as functional as it is beautiful. A rare opportunity in the best location the CAGE offers to enjoy timeless architecture, a perfect location, and move-in-ready luxury - 830 Chestnut truly offers the best of East Wilmette.

  • A.e.wolff
"Family environment. Summer beach nights. Open spaces and parks. Amazing schools with good progression. "
  • Aaron Walter
"Lots of other dogs in the neighborhood. Most everyone cleans up after their pets. The sidewalks are great for long walks. Lots of open spaces to play."
  • Hyun Y.
"V affluent area with diversity. Great school system, safe and clean. Can’t complain. Very kids friendly"
  • Smithp78
"Easy to commute to downtown via Metra. Not always easy to find parking at Metra after 7:15. A lot of people walk. Possible to drive downtown but takes up to 90 minutes in morning rush. "
  • Shannon J.
"People are extremely welcoming and friendly. We moved here a few months ago, and have never felt so immediately at home in a community!"
  • Iltonz
"I see people walking their dogs all the time, and they seemed happy! There are great parks and green areas for dogs in general."
  • Cheryl
"Lots of responsible dog owners walking their dogs in this area. People pick up after their dogs. Xxxxxxxxx"
  • Iam.pethcha
"The sidewalks are super clean which I can not find it anywhere like here also i feel safe living here even walking here at night time."
  • Jujujuice
"Lots of families. It’s a real community feel and people are very neighborly. And of course, great schools!"
  • Teresa
"Clean & wide sidewalks, many parks, fenced in dog beach plus another dog park. Many people own dogs & walk them several times a day. "
  • Zean N.
"It’s an amazing place to raise a family. Clean. Safe. Great schools. Close to the lake. Close to Chicago but far enough away to have a small town community feel. "
  • Miriam H
"Having a CTA station within a mile from our house makes the commute to Chicago doable. Depending on the day driving to and from the city during rush hour using Lakeshore or 94 is a hassle..."
  • Adroaras
"Certain parks are closed to dogs, but overall this is a dog friendly neighborhood. Also most of the parks have a poop bag station."
  • Satish Kumar
"very diverse demographics than past years! vibrant community, great facilities, amazing schools and school staff."
  • Teresa K.
"Great. All back roads to NU. never have to get on the free way. Only mild back UPS on Greenbay avenue during rush hour. There are lots of schools along the way which can slow you down due to buses and speed zones but that is the least of my worries "
  • Charles A.
"There are plenty of sidewalks and parks in the area. The only problem is there are no legal off leash parks within walking distance. "
  • Masahito J.
"Great schools, safe neighborhood, kids ride their bikes everywhere worry-free. Shops within walking distance. Great beach. Close to Chicago. "
  • Teresa K.
"very safe and very well maintained. prices are okay compared to our neighbors in Evanston. some neighborhoods, the houses all look the same but I enjoy the older neighborhoods where the homes have lots of old charm and character "
  • Keassouad
"Lake with beach, schools, access, community, restaurants, athletics, space to play transportation and character. "
  • Castle117
"I grew up here. Great forest preserve bike trails, the beach, pool clubhouse, and an excellent school district. "
  • cdtangney
"I have lived on and off in Wilmette for 30+ years. Grew up here. Eventually moved back here to raise my own family. Its one of the safest places in the country. The schools are excellent. The parks are beautiful, clean and have updated equipment. The Park District, With all that it has to offer for kids and adults, is incredible. The people are actively involved throughout the neighborhood. There are a few new dining and nightlife venues that are helping to make Wilmette all inclusive. Access to a great pool facility and one of the best beaches on the North shore just make it for this area. I highly recommend Wilmette to any young couple getting started, to anyone wanting to raise a family and to those looking to finish out their lives filled with quiet beauty in a safe place."
  • cg
"Have lived here for 10 years. The schools are superb and the people are like people anywhere. Some are nice and some are snotty but you can ignore them. Its great for the things that matter. Traffic getting into Chicago is usually bad but the Metra train is great."
  • conceptking
"Walking distance to everything - CTA, Metra, Parks, Beach, shopping in Wilmette and Evanston Central St. area. And a short drive to Sheridan Road/LSD and i-94.Phenomenal for families of all ages with nationally recognized and award winning schools. A fantastic and safe neighborhood and a hidden gem that borders Evanston. If there's a house that's within your budget range, make an offer - you will not be disappointed. "
  • lindamcz123
"I used to live in this community years ago and loved every day. There are two malls within walking distance. A couple of bus lines that can take you the the downtown train. Excellent expressway access going both north or south. The Park district is right across the street with an amazing Gym, child care and much, much more. LOVE Wilmette, and this area of it."
