We have only been here a few years and we are leaving. Finneytown seemed perfect for our family. Suburban school with diversity. What it lacks is having a handle on its students and there isn’t any true discipline. My child was assaulted 4 times in one month, did everything he was supposed to do in reporting and they couldn’t keep him safe. We went as high up as the Superintendent Mrs. Banks, and after assurances, nothing was done. Promise after promise of aid from multiple teachers, counselors, staff members and then the highest in the school and he still gets threats. My sons whole personality has changed. He fears going to school. He has broke down. He gave up basketball. His grades are slipping from a near 4.0 to a 3.0. We aren’t keeping him here another year. We’re done. My advice is to really look at your school leadership. Huge problems there. My kidsdeserve better than false promises, black eyes, bruised backs, threats of harm and teachers and staff who shrug, passing it off to the next people who never help either.

Before my child started school at Finneytown, they were happy, care-free, confident, and everybody was a friend. After just 1 year (1st grade), the bullying was so bad, my child became full of anxiety, depressed, confidence plummeted, and they had panic attacks around other kids that looked like the bullies. I repeatedly brought it up to the teacher, the bus drivers, and the principal and it was NEVER handled effectively. The bullies lied (of course) and the adult would just say, “Well, they said they didn’t do it and we can’t prove it.” THIS emboldens bullies. They got away with it! Now they will be even sneakier, escalate their behavior, lie and manipulate people better. That’s what the bullies learn at this school. And the good kids learn they can get abused and nobody will help. Some of the good kids get quiet, isolate, and try to be invisible in hopes the bullies leave them alone. This school won’t hold kids or parents accountable and they can’t keep kids safe. How can kids learn if they’re in an unsafe environment? Look at their test scores. This doesn’t even include the unhealthy food, coming home with inappropriate language, inappropriate gestures, and learning things from classmates they should not know! PLEASE RUN FAR AWAY! Please explore other options. It’s taken a long time to undo the damage from this place. Some of the damage can never be undone. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Please protect your children from this environment! It’s a pretty new building but looks are deceiving. It’s what is inside that counts. The behavior inside that building is toxic and damaging.
