About this House

Built by local architect, Chester Turczyn, for his family, this exceptional mid-century modern ranch style home is a true treasure.

The home was in the Turczyn family for two decades before being purchased by the Robert and Barbara Savage family, who lived at 817 10th Street for 45 years.

Turczyn designed the home following the architectural designs of Frank Lloyd Wright and the California ranch-style that was coveted from the 1950s through today.

The home features 32 new Andersen replacement windows (2020) with many double-hung sashes and thermopane glass for high UV efficiency.

You will stay warm all winter with the unique radiant heat that runs through the concrete foundation, and you will stay cool in the summer with the 4' wide soffits which help keep the sun off the windows.

The home features California corners on the living room ceiling, and crown molding in the family room, kitchen, dining room, hallways, and the bedrooms.

There is plenty of room to play outside with a double lot measuring 120 by 120. The backyard is fenced-in with a 6-foot-tall vinyl fencing by IV Fence and Pool. It's a perfect space for gardening, a pool, or camping in the back yard.

The plumbing and electrical have been updated in 2020 and the center stone feature, which is a classic mid-century modern design feature, has been tuck pointed by Jason Just, and will be maintenance-free for many years to come. The gas radiant heat system was updated in 2019 and includes the ability to adjust the heat in four zones.

The three large bedrooms are together on the east side of the home. The master bedroom is 13.6 by 12.8 and the other bedrooms are 12.8 by 11.8. All the closets are cedar lined, including the closet in the main bath and three hallway closets.

The formal living room is 19.6 by 16.6 and features a lannon stone wall that matches the stone on the exterior of the home. The family room has the original knotty pine on the walls and measures 16 by 10.9 and opens up to a view of the backyard with a full wall of windows.

The kitchen provides custom made birch cabinetry, lots of counter space, stainless steel appliances, and an on-demand 6 gallon hot water heater. The views from the dining room are enhanced by a full wall of windows, which makes the room seem much larger and provides an enjoyable space for family meals and celebrations. The kitchen and dining room measure 23.6 by 12.10.

Off the kitchen is an area that can be used as a fourth bedroom, office, crafting room or pantry. The second bathroom is easily accessible from the backyard, which will help keep your house clean if your family enjoys being outdoors.

The garage is 23.6 by 19.3 and accommodates two cars, includes a handmade wooden workbench that is perfect for the handyman or woodworker in the family. In the backyard there is a large outbuilding with dedicated electrical service, lighting, and a workbench.

    " I've lived in the area most of my life, hope to retire to Peru. I only wish the city fathers would take pedestrians and bicycles into account. Not many sidewalks, NO bike paths, and pets are not allowed in parks, except for the Dog Park, which is just a small fenced in area. If you want to walk to the mall or shopping area, you are putting your life in the hands of hurried drivers. It is nearly impossible to cross Rt. 251. On the good side, you could live your entire life here and never have to leave town. It really is a full service community, you just have to use your car to get around."
