8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSo, on the first day of school (8/14/25), we got there 5 minutes late because of traffic and nowhere to park. When we finally arrived, there was this long line of like 20-30 parents outside the locked gated entrance. I asked one of the staff why dropping kids off had to be so complicated. She said they were making sure the kids made it to class. I was like, "Can't the parents do that?" But before we could talk more, she got called away from the gate. The scene at Rio Hondo Elementary felt like a mess, even though it's a well-funded school. The chaos, delays, and lack of organization showed they weren't ready and had bad management. I got fed up, told them I'd find a different school for my kid, and walked off, glad I had other options. It's frustrating paying so much in taxes and seeing such poor management. Unfortunately all other schools in the district are saturated and my only realistic option for a decent education is private school.Parent Review8mo ago6 Reviews - Warren High School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWarren high school provides many opportunities for students who want to achieve their goals. They gives students the opportunity to take dual enrollment classes (early college classes), CTE Pathways, and AP’s. Our school environment is welcoming and diverse that have many clubs to join. In my experience I’ve been able to take dual enrollment classes while also being part of the Warren soccer team. The sports here are competitive but still really fun, which makes it a good balance. Warren helps students like us academically and activities outside of class.Student Review1mo ago11 Reviews - Check out schools near 8115 E 3rd St.

"Very family oriented. People take walks in the evening. There’s a sense of community. There’s lots of shops, grocery stores, etc. it’s a very pleasant little hidden gem. One thing I wish, that all the little streets had sidewalks. "

"Lots of dog poop on side walks and front yards because lots of dog owners don’t think they have to pick up after there dogs or there are some dog owners in the neighborhood that let their dogs run loose in the neighborhood and there dog poops on neighbors yards and they don’t pick it up. Other than that it’s good. "

"Downey has everything you need, good schools, good food, friendly police department, community programs, only downside would be the traffic getting through the city during rush out, residents usually take the back streets."

"Traffic in Downey is really bad. Can take 30 minutes to get from North Downey to South Downey. Lakewood and Telegraph are packed. But near freeways and that helps."

"ok, but increasing freeway traffic can be very challenging at times. I live 16 miles from home, on average that is a 30 minute commute which can turn into 60 minutes in days with freeway incidents. "

"The schools are good and kids are often seen using their bikes up and down alone. Also there are a lot of parks and it’s just a very calm city with pretty quiet people that keep to themselves. They have programs for kids at parks and in the community to keep them busy and active. Does need like a Chuck E. Cheese type of establishment or a jumper place of some sort"
