As a mother who just recently enrolled her daughter at this school I can honestly say. Right from the very beginning you can see it. You can feel it that the principle is genuinely passionate about her job. Also the first impression from all the staff the teacher. Mrs Chickillo taking the time to introduce herself to my daughter as her teacher. Its the little things that matter. Its our first time having our daughter attend this school im 4th grade. So it's a change. But I trust that she is in good hands with teachers and staff that geniuly care for their students and take the job seriously and are passionate about their jobs in general.

This is the worst school possible. All work is done online. I don't think my child has handwritten anything since being at this school. Kids with IEPs or 504 plans do not get the accommodations they deserve even though the school gets funding for these accommodations. The principal does absolutely nothing when you bring a concern to the table. I called every day for a week until I got a call back. I've gotten to the point where I have called the school district and plan to take it to the top because it's ridiculous at this point. Teachers don't care. They don't email back, they don't call back. And when they do its with such attitude. My son hates going to school. He states he gets no help, when they get frustrated with him, they send him to another class. This is not a way to treat a child. Save yourself the headache and avoid this school at all costs. Theres a reason they aren't even at half capacity.

I made the difficult decision to move my son out of Varela during his senior year because of a very disappointing experience he had on the boys volleyball team during his junior year. Despite being dedicated and passionate about the sport, he was treated unfairly. It was clear this was because he chose not to join the Miami United club team.It is disheartening to see high school athletics affected by outside affiliations and favoritism. A school team should be about school spirit, teamwork, and recognizing talent based on merit, not pressure to join specific clubs.I hope Varela takes a serious look at how its programs are being run and focuses on putting students’ experiences and development first. No student should feel excluded or overlooked for making personal choices outside of school.
