I currently have two children attending Arroyo Verde Elementary and have had children at the school for several years. This review is based on our family's actual experience, including concerns I am still actively working with the school and district to resolve.I think prospective families should look beyond an overall school rating. Arroyo Verde has favorable ratings on GreatSchools and Niche, but those ratings have not reflected our experience in several important areas.The school's 2026–2027 Parent/Student Handbook states that staff are willing to discuss parent concerns and work together to resolve problems. The school and district also have procedures for concerns involving academics, safety, behavior, staff interactions and special learning programs. In my experience, there has often been a gap between those written expectations and what occurs in practice.My greatest concerns have been administrative communication and responsiveness, consistency and follow-through with student supports, special-education and behavioral supports, communication and documentation surrounding student incidents, safety concerns, and the amount of repeated advocacy and follow-up sometimes necessary to obtain answers or action.I also want to be fair. There are individual teachers and staff members who care about students and have been responsive and supportive. My concerns are not that every teacher or everything about Arroyo Verde is negative. My concern is primarily with consistency, communication, coordination and accountability at the school level.A school can have caring teachers and respectable academic ratings while still needing improvement in family engagement, special education, social-emotional support, safety communication and administrative responsiveness.I am continuing to follow the school's and district's communication and escalation procedures because I genuinely want these concerns resolved and want Arroyo Verde to live up to the expectations in its own handbook.For families considering this school, I recommend being actively involved, keeping written documentation, understanding what supports your child needs or is entitled to, and communicating important concerns in writing.I hope these areas improve. Arroyo Verde has strengths, but in our experience there has been a meaningful difference between some of the school's written expectations and ratings and what our family has experienced in practice.
