This school has no support for children who struggle. The school pass these kids through for good ratings. Poor preparation for college. Guidance counselor was unsupportive and not helpful. I do not recommend this school.

Community is diverse, welcoming, curious, involved and kind. Most amazing pta and school staff I’ve ever been a part of. Teachers who stay for 20+ or 30+ years, free math tutoring programs after school, before and after, activities and an overall sense of a real community and learning.

My days at Western were terrible. The teachers targeted so many kids for failure, which I had to witness and endure for some of my classes. I was a good student in primarily advanced courses (for the few they offered), and, I can say confidently, these courses did not prepare me for High School at all. Rather, these courses were centered around accelerating people like me at the cost of many less fortunate students. I am now into college, and a great college at that, but I give zero credit to Western for this. Frankly, in speaking with my parents, I believe the beginning of my academic struggles, though everything turned out well in the end, started at Western Middle School. Do NOT let your children go here.
