The Charles W Orton House (Orton Manor) is also referred to as the Birthplace of the Daffodil Festival which began in 1926 on the property grounds as an annually tea party for local dignitaries. The home is a true modern craftsmen design with the construction supervised by an English architect and took 3 years to construct. A true one of a kind home. The craftsmanship is comparable to the finer old homes in North Tacoma and Queen Anne. The home has many unique and beautiful features. Solid Granite double walled foundation with a massive granite chimney, leaded glass windows, several huge picture windows (including the largest you have ever seen), pocket doors, lots of custom glass and lighting. The main floor features a large entry with a huge living room and sunken sun room extension area and an adjacent tea room along with a water closet. Foyer and large formal dining area with an updated kitchen area. As you come up the staircase you will notice at the landing a back staircase (referred to as a maid's staircase) for direct access to the kitchen area. At the top of the stairs there is a large plant room with a bird's eye view of the back of the property. The second floor has four large bedrooms and two full baths. Master bedroom has a balcony and a sleeping porch with a trundle bed. Huge covered front porch and large deck on the backside. Additionally there is a 2,000 sq ft unfinished basement and a 1,000 sq ft unfinished attic space for a total of 6,900 sq ft on four levels. The attic has a full access staircase, a dormer at the top of the stairs and windows on the sides, so it could be easily converted to finished living space. Hardwood floors throughout. A new 60 year cedar roof has been installed. The large 1.2 acre lot has a circular drive with fingers so you can park a lot of stuff and keep the drive open. There is a ton of space for RV or to build a custom garage etc.
