4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI had two children attend this school last year. The youngest one did well but the large class size seemed too overwhelming to be a good learning environment. Some kids that could not keep up did not receive sufficient attention because there weren't enough resources. Parents really need to be more involved in their children's education now days. Also, we contributed to the class fundraiser and never saw where the funds were spent. My older student did well also but I don't think the teacher challenged the classes writing skills and pushed the importance of proper fundamentals often enough. Writing is an important foundation that should start in elementary school and be continously cultivated throughout adulthood. The demand only gets greater. Burnett's PTA is almost non-existence. Harldy any parent's or teacher's actively participate.Parent Review13y ago3 Reviews - Jessie Nelson Academy

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AveragePlease don’t send your kids here please! They didn’t call the police neither the parents about school shooting, I’m glad everyone is safe. But they should let us know when someone in there has a gun on them. As parents we send our kids to school to learn. Not to feel uncomfortable and unsafe. The only people they called was school safety, no parent no LBPD was never called. There no updated information I’m not sure if I’m gonna let my child go to this school anymoreParent Review1mo ago7 Reviews - Polytechnic High School

"There are many child friendly places and activities for the whole family. There are several parks and playgrounds where children can enjoy themselves and it’s a safe space. The public spaces are well maintained and everyone is pretty friendly and welcoming and socially appropriate. "

"Friendly and accepting, we have BL ock events and celebrations. We also occasionally have Front Yard Fridays - we hang out in our front yard just to be outside and be seen. You’d be amazed how that changes the vibe of a neighborhood to feel safe and friendly. "

"it’s nice like any other place that has the ups and down however, for the most part, people are friendly and neighborly. Issue is that some houses and apartment are oversaturated with tenant which causes a decrease of actual parking space on the street so parking is horrible. Worse than a lot of parts in LA."

"Lots of dogs everywhere so if you have a social pup it’s great! However you do have to occasionally deal with poor pet parenting like dogs off leash and don’t recall, not picking up poop, etc."

"Long Beach is huge but broken down into neighborhoods. We have an active parks and recs department and the city holds MANY city wide events like BeachStreets, music festivals, parades for most major holidays, and our high schools are all very tied to the community with sports and events! "
