Honestly, this school is pretty ok. The teachers are good, the lessons are ok, and the environment is pretty average. The one complaint is the school food. I got really sick with salmonella, and the only reason that could be true is the horrid school food. My house is strictly vegan household, so I indulge in meat and dairy products at school. Thanks for ruining my safe haven. I got super sick, and I'm surprised I'm not more mad than I already am. Honestly, how would you feel not trusting the only source of something you enjoy in your life? It feels horrible.

If you're the type of person who lends any credence to the questionable ratings given by GreatSchools, don't let Owens' score fool you. This is an outstanding school where children flourish and parental communication is open and encouraged.

My child attended Labay Middle School for sixth grade, but I withdrew him by October. We were initially optimistic, as two neighborhood children were also enrolled, and the boys were excited to ride the bus together. However, within a few weeks, I noticed a troubling shift in my son’s behavior. Normally cheerful and outgoing, he became quiet and withdrawn, which was highly uncharacteristic.By October, I discovered that my son and the two other boys had been repeatedly harassed on the bus by older students. What began as bullying quickly escalated into a criminal matter when one of the eighth-grade students threatened to shoot my son if he didn’t bring him snacks by Friday. The student went so far as to describe how he could smuggle a firearm onto the bus, citing the lack of adult supervision. I immediately contacted the school multiple times, but no one returned my calls or emails. Our neighbors and even other family members also attempted to reach out, without success.It was only after I involved the Texas school board that the principal finally responded, offering to meet. However, that meeting never occurred. I later learned the school board had given him a specific deadline to contact me to avoid serious consequences. It became clear that the principal’s outreach was not out of concern, but rather compliance under pressure. The school’s failure to take this situation seriously, paired with its complete lack of urgency, was both unacceptable and deeply alarming.I removed my son from Labay immediately for his safety and because I could not allow my son to attend another second at this school. I feel it is important to share our experience for those considering this school for their children. Serious threats like these must be addressed appropriately and in this case, they were not. Hopefully the district will finally get a handle on this school for those who are forced to attend it. Children should never feel unsafe at school for any reason, especially due to the adults in charge taking no action to ensure student safety.
