Our son has Tourette syndrome, which includes uncontrollable movements and vocalizations, attention deficit and obsessions. He is also autistic. From first grade through to graduation, he was enrolled in the Special Education program, where he received a solid education from a team of teacher and several assistants at each school (Northside Elementary, Middle School and High School). Additionally, the entire student body was taught to treat the special ed students with kindness and compassion, and they did! For example, when he was on the high school cross country team, the coach had him run in the middle school meets, and one student volunteered to run alongside him to keep him on task. Consequently, our son did not experience any hazing or unkind remarks and graduated with a good self image and pleasant memories of his school years and the students, teachers and staff members who befriended him. Also, I personally served as the coach of the robotics team and taught some annual one period enrichment classes within the physics curriculum. I was impressed by the teacher's management of his students to stimulate and focus them on learning in a fun and engaging way.

Northside is an amazing school. Wonderful, kind staff and excellent, educated teachers.
