4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son started this school a year ago. He joined Pre-Kinder with severe speech delay. A year later after constant dedication from his teacher and the speech therapist my son talks a mile a minute. My sincere gratitude to all the Special Ed teachers at this school that have had the patience with my son. The principal is always emailing the parents, leaving voicemails and constantly keeping the parents informed about events. Thank you 135th St staff for all you do.Parent Review11y ago - Robert E. 5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI was a student here, a long time ago. I am now in a better position in life and want to give back to the place that helped forge me into the person I am today. Avalon Gardens played a large role in who I am today. I call the school, talk to the principle who seems like she is not a very friendly person, about donating, and finding out how I can help give back to the school. This woman tells me that her priority is to get electronic "chalk" boards in the classrooms. I looked these boards up online, they are starting at $8,000. I mean, aren't there more pressing materials kids need, other than another screen to look at. I was fortunate to make it to adulthood living in south central, unlike my classmate Khye Johnson and the countless others we lost, and I will give back in my own way. HOWEVER, I CAN TELL THE PRINCIPLE HAS NO IDEA WHAT IT'S LIKE TO LIVE AMONGST THE PEOPLE. We gotta break this vicious cycle of allowing people who can't relate to us, to teach our children. Electronic chalk boards, give me a break. No wonder the scores are where they are. My name is Charell Williams.Parent Review12y ago - New Designs Charter School-Watts

"Neighborhood is not the safest and streets are not well maintained. Loud and frequent fireworks at night and occasional parties that can be heard even blocks away. Lots of drag racing. My particular apartment complex is not quiet and not an ideal place as a grad student. I would not recommend this neighborhood to a friend. "

"Free ways are all conveniently close by. All major freeways at that. 105, 110, and 91 freeways are all easy to reach within minutes. I’m able to get to Downtown L.A. rather quickly and I’m also able to get to the Manhattan Beach areas pretty quickly too. "
