    Description

An intoxicating opportunity to own a 343 acre swath of spectacular farmland, proudly eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, that encompasses several impressive barn structures, plus a fully functioning distillery and tasting room. Dutch's Spirits, on Harvest Homestead Farm, is a distillery with a legacy! Built in 1932 toward the end of the Prohibition Era, it was Dutchess County's largest bootlegging operation, owned and operated by the notorious gangster Dutch Schultz (once played on screen by Dustin Hoffman). Hidden beneath a cow barn in a massive network of underground bunkers and tunnels, the distillery produced Sugar Wash Moonshine, considered the best of the best. By 2020, the newly constructed building integrating that underground complex with a state-of-the-art-distillery, commercial kitchen and tasting room were opened to the public, and the first batch of Sugar Wash Moonshine blended and bottled in Pine Plains, was re-introduced to the masses (legally this time) Other products include bourbon and a variety of bitters. Harvest Homestead Farm has endless potential. Through the years it has been a productive farm raising turkeys, chickens, pigs and cows, potatoes and corn. It's waiting for someone with vision to perhaps keep the distillery and tasting room going, revive it as a full-time farm, or open a sprawling indoor-outdoor event space. The location is superb: the property neighbors the increasingly popular Mashomack Fish & Game Preserve Club, a 1,900-acre private sporting preserve and social club that offers shooting, polo playing and fine dining. The picturesque hamlet of Pine Plains is within a thirty minute drive to the increasingly hip cultural and dining hubs of Hudson and Rhinebeck and only two short hours to Manhattan.

"We live in this area and love it! Small town feel. Clarks Mills area is great because you have Schuylerville School District, but with Greenwich taxes. Quite & safe and a variety of ages of neighbors. We thought the mill near hear would bother us, but they seem clean and are only noisy once a year when the "blow the stacks" to clean the big chimney tower. Fishing on the Battenkill river is great and a new park with a huge play area opened in 2012, along with a historic bridge reopened to foot traffic for a beautiful walk."
    • jfarndel
"Great for trout fishing, tubing, kayaking, bicycling. Near Vermont ski mountains. Great spot for a second home or retirement . "
