"It is best to have a car in this town. There is public transportation, however, it is a very rural area so getting around requires a car. "
  • Trulia User
"Lots of places to hike with your dog. Safe neighborhoods for go walking. Lots of open land for your dog to run around. Properties here are big !"
  • Trulia User
"Many people in our neighborhood have dogs. Barefoot Road is a great neighborhood to walk your dog. Personally, I feel we should have fewer dogs. I think we should have a no new dog policy."
  • Marco
"Christmas tree lighting. Autumn lights festival. Hiking kayaking lots of lakes not much of a downtown scene but what it lacks in that it makes up for in privacy "
  • Marco
"Morning commute on 23 is a drag. The lights add 5 to ten minutes to your commute. The lights at echo and 23 is said to be the longest in the nation. "
  • Juan
"Great neighborhood very safe all the neighbors very friendly supermarkets around the corner great place for kids"
  • Kj B.
"Nj transit bus. It’s fine. Reliable at peak times. Not reliable at other times and that can be very annoying. "
  • Craig H.
"more people own dogs in this neighborhood than don't. 100% dog friendly. 100 character minimum blah blah "
  • Megan L.
"Firework shows on the school turf. The autumn lights festival is also a great community festival and there are a lot of local venders and foods "

  • Jesse B.
"The state parks. We love them. Everyone young and old. Swim, Picknick, hick, fish, and even camp! All around wonderful state parks!"
  • Brendan M.
"West Milford is a beautiful town, but is far away from everything. I’ve lived here my entire life and if you want to get anything to eat or drink after midnight, your only option is Exxon if you don’t want to drive more than 10 minutes."
  • Renia C.
"The fact that everyone knows each other and minds their business but if something happens then they will all come together to try to help whoever "
  • Spinyriptide
"Good bus transportation to New York and Willowbrook area. Trains are a 30 minute drive. Driving is doable within the region. The ride home into West Milford and Hewitt is always a natural delight."
  • Melissa BB
"Most people drive to work, but a NJ Transit Park N Ride services Hewitt and West Milford into NYC. Trains from Ramsey and Willowbrook (Wayne NJ) are also popular."
  • Udo
"Our community has manny events Such as fishing tournaments, first dance, October fest and so on through the year plus the get togethers of just the neighbors. Awosting counts 200 homes. Part of the community is a club house and boat house on the lake. Both are used for community parties. We also have a kids playground and tennis courts and a community beach. There are sail boat regattas every Sunday. Even though we are only 40 miles from Manhattan live is peaceful in Awosting."
  • Lauren D.
"I have lived here my whole life. Nice quiet area to live in and a lot of lakes and parks for the kids. "
  • Kenneth S.

"We are very close to the woods and often have black bears in our yards. Beautiful birdwatching. Kids can ride their bikes on my street"
  • Thiarance
"Close to Rt 23, easy access to the major highways. Beautiful nature all around, kids ride their bikes safely in my little neighborhood and play in the snow. Very friendly neighbors "
  • Len
"I'm a city woman and visiting Greenwood lake was definitely extremely different in the the sense of it's environment. People in the area were reserved and not a soul in sight. The streets were extremely dark, I felt trapped after sun down if I had no car because there are limited street lights, not enough to see well. Everything is extremely quiet even during the daylight. I'm glad it was just a visit. I did meet 2 nice residents out of the area to where I stayed. My visit was for about 1-2 weeks."
  • Rmekita1
"The yards tend to be large enough for play, and neighbors are not hard by each other. People will walk their dogs on lease and the roads tend to be small and rural."
  • Deena A.
"There are no sidewalks so be aware that people speed. Don’t allow your children to walk around here."
  • Jeodaly
"My commute is easy, 19 miles to route 17 in Bergen county. Trains and buses far enough away that you don’t hear the noise. Walking distance to buses. Perfect area, beautiful, peaceful, friendly, affordable and convenient Lake Community "
  • Cathyearl566
"peaceful country walks are great. no lights or sidewalks makes it dangerous for walking most areas. pet friendly"
  • Cathyearl566
"small town country lake community. small business galore. 20 to make 45 to New York City. we still know our neighbors. "
  • Heather V.
"I have lived in west milford for 17 years. It is a great community for raisin kids. Just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of nyc but close enough to enjoy when you want to. Also very close to wine country. Always a plus! "
  • Jeodaly
"I love my Lake community, my neighbors too which include beautiful wildlife like bald eagles, hawks, and yes bears. Bears are beautiful and harmless if you are a good neighbor. They are an awesome sight to see. If you choose to live here, be a nature lover. There is a lovely quiet to the night and the stars and sparkling water are amazing and very peaceful "
  • Rtsvtec2004
"country living at it finest still close to main city work. We moved here 8 years ago from NYC and it was the best decision we have ever made. if your not into the outdoors or powersports this is not the place for you. "
