My two children have both attended Tuckaseegee. They have a Talent Development program which is a version of a gifted and talented program. The TD teachers are fairly well involved with all of the TD kids overall. Those children rotate amongst the TD teachers during the school day/week for various classes. This school has a music program as well as an art class. This year my daughter even had a chance to do ceramics which was a very nice addition. Field trips have been interesting and educational (Ovens Auditorium, Old Salem, etc.). There are a few after school clubs as well (science club, etc.). The school library is also very well stocked. My two biggest gripes about this school are lunch and lack of textbooks / workbooks that come home. The lunch program leaves much to be desired. These are NOT the school lunches that you remember. I rarely ever feel that the meals are well balanced and highly recommend packing lunches if you can. Lunch menus seem to be school system wide now. As far as textbooks / workbooks go, I rarely (if ever) see either one coming home. This makes it almost impossible to help with homework for the kids. We've had to supplement with our own at home.

Administration is terribly unsupportive, unresponsive, unprofessional, and lacking in overall professionalism. Overcrowded due to an entire side of the city being forced into the school despite many other high schools being in the area. Transportation is a nightmare. Athletics are a joke, they haven't had an indoor track team for years and they don't seem to care much about having one.

Review of Whitewater Middle SchoolThis is by far the worst and most unqualified middle school in Mecklenburg County. The environment here is extremely loose and careless. Students are not focused on academics—most of them don’t bring home any homework. Instead, they come home with makeup on their faces, bad language, and street-like behavior. Rather than preparing kids for success, this school teaches them how to be lazy, unmotivated, and even attracted to gang culture.The principal and administration show little to no concern for students’ safety or learning. Students are often left unsupervised, even walking off school grounds toward the main street without any staff watching them. This is unacceptable and dangerous.Parents should also be alarmed that I have personally witnessed and heard of very serious incidents: 12-year-old students vaping, and in one occasion, a child was caught at the school with a handgun. These are not small issues—these are signs of deep problems in school management and oversight.It’s no surprise that this school doesn’t allow reviews on Google—too many parents have been complaining about the truth of what’s happening here. Most of the staff have little to no real educational experience. Even the school social worker left, and the therapist also moved on from this school, which says a lot about the toxic environment.If you are a parent considering Whitewater Middle School, I strongly urge you to take a serious look at what is going on. Please be cautious and think carefully before enrolling your child here. Your child’s education and safety deserve better.
