"1914 Craftsman architectural custom home built for J.W. Paris - owner of the woolen mill – the largest business in Prairie du Chien during the first half of the 20th Century. This home is a one of kind with 1 1/4 quarter sawn tongue and groove oak floors, Oak doors and trim throughout, over 35 leaded glass (original) windows, whole house fan and balloon framing with 10" air space in walls. Yes, that equates to 2�? x 12�? inch studs sill plate to top (no nominal 1 ½�? x 3 ½�? toothpick studs here). Designed to be cool in summer and heat efficient in winter - even with 1914 utility systems. This house has been seen by a National Park Service - National Register of Historic Places official who recommended applying for listing.
