Kalkaska High school is by far the most unreliable, dysfunctioning high school in the area. Before sending any child to this school be prepared for your child to be bullied, not only by other students, but by the staff members and teachers as well. Make sure you read the safety plans as well, students are to practically fend for themself in case of an emergency. The counselors are as worthless as a white crayon on white paper, the principal is a piece of work as well. They will not and will refuse to accommodate special needs children. I was told repeatedly that they did not know how to deal with a child with an IEP. The staff members at this school are miserable and make every encounter with them just as bad. Having a “meeting or discussion” about your student only ends in the principal raising her voice at you without any accountability or responsibility. You can not have a conversation with someone who believes they are always right. My child has never had an issue with ANY school member, until Kalkaska and the unbelievably disregard for the students that attend there.

Amazing school. Teachers and principal are caring, kind and always seem to have smiles on their faces. Laughter and fun are constantly heard throughout the building from both the kids and staff. They make learning fun, ans individualize academic support for every child. They support the entire family through the programs they offer and it's a great place to be!

I and my family have been to both large and small schools and have never been to such a poorly run school as Kalkaska Middle School. When bullying is coming from the principal down and not taken care of there is a real problem. If I had a choice to do it all over again...I would rather home school my child or send them to another middle school. The leadership and teaching staff totally needs to be revamped and should think of the students FIRST.

They do not listen, they do not care. Send them somewhere else if you can!
