The school is what you and your child make it. Reading previous reviews, I dreaded being zoned for WHMS. After enrolling my child, I realized it is not what the reviews make it seem and rather, there may be a lack of parenting and discipline at-home which leads to some misbehaved/disrespectful students.I have spoken with all of my child’s teachers over the last two school years either in person or via ParentSquare and have never had any issues. If my child is missing work, I am informed right away via Skyward and can easily access the teachers to find out what is going on. The teachers are more than willing to allow the children time to make-up missing work and allow for extra credit. They are also very understanding and send many reminders throughout the course of the year. The children are not all bad and there’s not 1,000 fights a day, like the past reviews make it seem. My child has made many friends and has not had any issues with his peers. My child is respectful in class, as I raised him to be, therefore he is not kicked out of class for being disruptive. Are they kids? Yes. Will they argue and possibly fight over nonsense? Yes. However, this is not the case for every single day. The admin is always sending out information on ways parents can get involved with the school community and change the culture around, but there is very little parent involvement from what I can see, and this may very well be the cause of many issues! This can also be a reason this school has way less funding than most other schools in Hernando County. Overall, WHMS was not my top choice, but has quickly become a school I would recommend to others! Change the culture at home and the culture at school will change. With those changes, we will create better students, better athletes, and receive more funding for more programs/better equipment!

Allowed someone’s daughter to bully my son and have him constantly be harassed by the administration. She lied about stuff he “said” on the bus. His brother even vouched for him saying he didn’t talk to anyone on the bus the past few days. We eventually just moved out of the area when it became apparent that the school was going to hold on to his iep and other documents to keep him from transferring to a school that is better equipped for someone with autism. The last month before I was able to pull him out and move out of area, the administration singled him out and said he couldn’t bring a backpack to school anymore due to the other kid being allowed to lie and make up unfounded stories about him for being a quiet kid.
