2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe administration is simply negligent. From misappropriation of school funds to exploitation of surrunding communities. What do I mean? Last year the athletic director was found to have misappropriated over a quarter million dollars ($285,000). in terms of academics, Out of 160 senior students only 30 are set to graduate this year. Less than 6 percent. LET THAT SINK IN. they also HEAVILY infringe upon the rights and privacy of their students for example: extensive checks and limited access to any contact with the outside world. meaning no phones, no water bottles, No stanleys This is not a typical nor productive environment for encouraging development in children. Compared to other schools in the area this place is practically a jail primarily pushed towards POC and as a youth who VERY actively participates in implementing local public policy It's saddening to say the least. The worst of all this is that with addition of the Obama library the students who attended before its construction are the same ones being used for diversity photo ops and then being told that they have eesentially no access to the facility. To further push the current students out they then decided to make this the first year that Hyde park will be selective enrollment. Meaning that it's no longer a default neighborhood school and the current residents are not automatically enrolled. TRULY I wish I'd gone somewhere else. A waste of four years.Other Review4w ago10 Reviews - Check out schools near 534 E 61st St.

"Great schools in the area. Parks are great to visit but be mindful of your surroundings. You can visit the beach via public transportation or bike. "

"Im sure they would find it quite nice considering Washington Park is very near by. Maybe not for night time walks as it gets pretty loud with gun violence at that time of day."

"I'll put it like this I just got done hearing pump action type gun shots at 8:00 pm. A sound that is pretty normal for this area. This neighborhood is no good for kids in my opinion. In a square 4 block radius from Eberhart to Prairie."

"The area is a mix of families. Kids play outside and people care for their yards. There are some streets were the buildings are abandoned but that’s changing too. I think there’s room for improvement n"

"Great transportation to the green line, the cottage grove bus is right up the street than the red line, also you can go down by stony island and get all the buses to go down town as well. "

"None. I haven’t seen a block club or anything. It’s crime ridden and drug infested. No sense of community what so ever. I can’t wait to move away from here. "

"Pro's: Right on 59th street, King Drive and Cottage Grove bus routes and the Green Line train. Con's: High gun violence, drug activity, chances of being robbed. "

"Nothing. Crime is rampant. Schools are bad. In 10 years it might be a very nice neighborhood if the University of Chicago keeps on investing. The close proximity to Hyde Park is the biggest plus for me"

"It’s getting better because of development and investments. The University has brought a lot of money into the community. "
