I am a teacher at Transit Tech. The information that I see on this page is quite dated. Our statistics have increased across the board. Low enrollment is a city-wide problem, not just at Transit. Low enrollment is due to gentrification, increase in charter schools and ICE. I am glad that the school has not shut down but more excited by the fact that some unproductive staff members have moved on (what a blessing). I am proud to see our recent graduates (16 to be exact) obtain employment at the MTA after successfully completing their apprenticeship program. I am also glad to see that our students are matriculating at Tier one colleges and universities, such as New York University School of Tandon School of Engineering, Penn State, etc., as opposed to SUNY and CUNY schools. In addition, one or our students gained acceptance into military academies, such as United States Military Academy at West Point. These achievements actually took place within the past two years so go figure. It is also a good thing that our goal is to promote careers in STEM and is not designed to just gear students to work at MTA although it is a wonderful opportunity. Change is not an event, it is a process. WE also have an amazing college and career office to support all students in achieving their goals subsequent to graduating, including our special education population, who have also obtained employment at the MTA. I write this review on my own will. My son is in first grade now and he has improved a lot here, in terms of his mathematical, critical thinking and linguistic abilities. One thing that impressed me, as a newcomer to this city, is the lesson tailored just to your child. I mean, if a student's ability is above the average, then the teachers could give more challenging tasks for him, compared to the others. In that sense, I just can't blindly trust the average ranking of the school because it tells nothing about how our children will perform in school.Overall, I recommend this school to everybody lives in the neighborhood. It's a great school with teachers who really care about their students.

This month marks 26 years since I graduated from JHS218, and having the opportunity to return as a substitute teacher over the past few weeks has been a true blessing.Walking through the halls again brought back many memories, but what stood out most was the incredible growth I've seen in both the school and the surrounding community. The dedication of the staff, the positive learning environment, and the strong support from families and community members are inspiring to witness.As an alumnus, it fills me with pride to see how JHS218 continues to invest in its students and create opportunities for success. Being able to come back and contribute, even in a small way, has been a meaningful full-circle experience. Thank you to the administration, teachers, students, and community for making me feel welcome and for continuing the tradition of excellence that has made this school such a special place.Once a JHS218 student, always a JHS218 student!
