What Locals Say about Marshall Heights

  • Trulia User
"I like the fact that you have access to public transportation and shopping center. Also walking distance to local stores and a nearby grocery store as well as a nearby pharmacy "
  • Trulia User
"Just good neighborhood great place to live . Nice people . Look out for one another . Need a grocery store badly "
  • Trulia User
"Great access to downtown, Virginia and Maryland. Have lived in Marshall Heights for over 13 years. Very good area, well kept secret neighborhood east of the river for homeowners and families."
  • Omar A. K. H.
"Easy walk to the Benning Rd Metro station. I don't use the buses but there are over 6 lines available throughout the community."
  • Sabrenat
"Most the churches have VAcation bible school and there is plenty Block parties church’s also give away clothes and feed families "
  • Sabrenat
"I drive but the bus is really convenient and has great hours of operation the station is in walking distance if you have too and Uber/Lyft comes in the neighborhood "
  • Arobi88
"my block is chill. military and diverse ages and cultures live here. Everyone kinda minds theirs. love this area and glad I bought some years ago."
  • Blkqueenbarbie
"It’s a nice neighborhood to walk your dog and put it as I have any dog parks very friendly neighbors and their pets"
  • Danielle G.
"Not a lot of grass and trees for dogs to really run free."
  • Danielle G.
"The culture of the neighborhood makes it unique, which is sadly beginning to be erased by gentrification."
  • Danielle G.
"Bus W4 or V7/V8. You can take the Metro at Benning Rd or also commute by car. Benning Rd and East Capitol can become congested."
  • Danielle G.
"It's a busy area and there are lots of kids."
  • Yolanda H.
"Neighborhood isn’t bad for the most part. Pretty quiet and everyone speaks. My car was broken into because family member didn’t lock my door, they didn’t get anything but money out my cup holder and my aux cord. Every now and then you will hear gunshots. Esp on New Years. It was my first New Years and it was too much."
  • Theresamccoy
"Family oriented, friendly neighbors, walkable, tree lined streets and usually quiet. Definitely a place to call home. "
  • Monea G.
"A few neighbors have poorly secured fences and so, occasionally the dogs get out. The dogs are typically friendly but do not appear as such due to their size and breed."
  • Monea G.
"I'm fairly new to the area. I'm not fond of it but it could be worse off. I do like that a lot of the vacant homes are being bought, renovated, and lived in as opposed to just being flippers."
  • Monea G.
"The commute is convenient during the week, and a little less so on the weekends. The V1 takes you to the national mall area via navy yard and south west. Otherwise, the U8 and W4 or the blue line metro are the primary modes of public transportation."
  • Monea G.
"A wide variety of drivers. Quite a few car accidents near where Benning Rd and Southern Ave intersect. There is a Kip Charter School not too far."
  • Sabrea A. A.
"Neighborhood is quiet for the most part b uh t it does have its bad moments of gjn shots and car accidents. "
  • Emily
"My family has lived in this neighborhood for over five years. We've never had any issues with safety. Best things about this area are the metro bus/train lines. There are lots of nice families with kids; most are low-income. Schools are not great with the exception of one of DC's best charter schools: KIPP DC. Things that need to be improved: some properties are unkempt, there are very few public parks/playgrounds, and the only sit-down restaurant is a Denny's. City services used to be atrocious, but got a lot better when Fenty became mayor. Overall, this is a nice place to live. It's residential, on its way up, and most people are friendly. And the proximity to Capitol Hill for the price cannot be beat!"
