4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a former student of Mar Vista Middle School, I didn’t expect excellence but I at least expected basic human decency. The teachers were fine, the education was passable, but the way this school allows students to treat one another? Absolutely unacceptable.Let me be crystal clear: my sister was harassed and yelled at by another student to the point of tears and what did the other kids do? Pulled out their phones and started recording. Not to help. Not to intervene. Just to turn someone else’s pain into their entertainment. Disgusting. And where was the school in all of this? Silent. Passive. Letting it slide like it’s just another day. No serious consequences. No accountability. Just a culture of “kids will be kids” while actual harm is being done. Here’s a reality check: ban the phones. Teach your students how to be decent people. Because right now, the only thing some of these kids are learning is how to be bullies with cameras. And to the parents yes, I’m talking to you maybe actually talk to your kids. Because some of them are part of the problem, and either you don’t know it or you’re ignoring it.This school has potential, but the way things are being handled? Mediocre at best, harmful at worst. The world isn’t going to coddle these kids forever reality will slap them hard if you don’t start holding them accountable now.Do better.Other Review11mo ago6 Reviews - Mar Vista Senior High School

"There are new bicycle Lanes going up Smyth avenue. Streets are being slurried with new pavement. Neighbors are friendly they get into the Christmas spirit by putting lights on their homes. There are several new Young home buyers. A lot of remodeling going on. People getting involved with the community. Neighborhood watch signs on Street lights. "

"Farmers market nearby but there is a lot of noise and the garbage trucks like to drive behind the apartments through the alley every weekday and it echoes so it makes it difficult to sleep past 7 and there are also the gardeners and their leaf blowers for all the apartment buildings "

" “In my neighborhood, it’s really the community events that make it feel special. We have holiday light-ups where everyone decorates their homes and the whole street glows — families walk around with hot chocolate, kids laugh, and it feels like one big festive gathering. On weekends, there are small farmers markets and pop-up stands where neighbors sell local produce, homemade treats, and crafts. It’s one of those places where you always end up running into someone you know. We also have seasonal events like summer block parties, outdoor movie nights at the park, and little cultural celebrations that bring everyone together. Even simple things, like community clean-ups or morning walking groups, create this sense of connection. All these little moments throughout the year make the neighborhood feel warm, welcoming, and full of life. It’s the kind of place where people look out for each other, and that’s what makes it really special.”"
