Just a toxic school with no support for students

I think the scores are high because the community has so many driven families doing extracurricular academics outside of school. Some teachers are really great. Hit or miss. Overall those teachers are underappreciated by the community. And unfortunately the community isn't very close and not well connected with each other. The advanced placement classes are a big disappointment because the testing isn't a good gauge of the smarter kids. More gauged to whoever prepares their child with the testing platform techniques. School itself is very test focused and child's worth wrapped in those scores. Many kids this young simply aren't good testers yet. I'd rather my child use all that revaluating time instead in engagement in mastering a topic they are learning. They did seem to be very supportive of kids that are behind and not getting a strong foundation at home. Good for a public school. Really wish it had a strong, supportive community.

I graduated from Tyee Middle School in June of 2025. Throughout my three years of attending this school, I have grown tremendously, met lots of new people, etc. Obviously, many inevitable hardships have occurred as well, but ultimately I am thankful for the growth and insight I have gained from these experiences.The staff have put lots of effort into making the atmosphere here seem welcoming and supportive (assemblies, WEB program, etc.), yet overall there remains a considerable amount of pressure and competition among students (which is relatively common within schools located in the greater Seattle area), particularly between those in the Advanced Learning program. Poor mental health is rather widespread across Tyee students; this is likely tied to the high amounts of competition and pressure as well as the heavy workload.The staff here have put a lot of emphasis on safety; nevertheless several fights occur every year. Additionally, I have heard of staff members (now fired) exhibiting inappropriate/suggestive behavior towards students. Over the years I have heard about students being involved in incidents regarding hate speech & inappropriate language, plagiarism, misuse of technology, cybercrime, vandalism, bullying, etc. In my opinion, the curriculum at Tyee is fairly well-developed and generally utilizes quality resources. Students frequently complain about the amounts of homework given, etc.Hope this helps! Thanks for reading :)
