7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAll schools have their issues but having had my kids in a different school I can compare. Powell High School is a clean, safe, and great educational school. The other school they went to did not have the high money per student ratio. It was dirty, scary, and nasty. 6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMost teachers are excellent, but with poor leadership it is hard for a school as a whole to excel. Negative atmosphere. Not willing to work with parents. 75% of students' grades in every class based on what they call formative assessments which amounts to written tests in most classes. Some teachers do better formative assessments. But, because the principal just announced that every teacher had to do this in every class, teachers don't have a chance to create good formative assessments. If your student is not a good test taker, this school and philosophy will probably set them back even further in that area. They are permanently nervous because they are always taking tests. They could be getting an A in a class, take a test, and be getting an F the next day due to the 75% weight. Happens regularly. My story is not unique. I've talked with many parents with the same experiences. If I had a choice, my kids would not go to this school. Mainly due to the leadership. Do appreciate the teachers and their desire to overcome the negativity and challenges posed by administration.Parent Review11y ago - Parkside Elementary School
