4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son is now in the fourth grade at Brunson and in the HAG program. Last year (3rd grade), was a little rough but I believe 3rd grade is generally rough at all schools considering it is a "transition" year. Last year, we had approximately 2-3 hours of homework per night and I had to google most of the math homework because I had no idea how to do it. From what I have heard from other 3rd grade parents, they had to do the same. The math homework for 3rd grade was ridiculous and the amount was WAY too much. This year, we have a wonderful teacher (Mrs. McGee) who is animated, energetic, kind, and goes out of her way to communicate with parents. My son adores her. The homework has lessened tremendously because they do most of their work in class on laptops. The school is run down and in a bad part of town, but that is no reflection on Brunson as a whole. I just wish the HAG program had a better location. Looking at the bigger picture, I would say I have definitely been pleased. It's challenging, hard work, and definitely not easy. But my son is NOT bored and he is around peers who is interested in the same things he is interested in (technology, etc.) versus the sports.Other Review7y ago - Reynolds High

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI taught at this school for many years and have nothing but positive things to say about the students, parents, and staff members. I am filled with pride when I think about my time at the school and miss teaching there very much. The students are challenged academically and held to high standards, but they generally rise to and exceed these standards. The college professors in particular will hold the kids to account, and it shows in their development both as students and individuals. If you want your child to develop a strong work ethic, feel supported by both their peers and teachers, and grow into thoughtful, respectful, and diligent individuals, send them to this school! Please be mindful that this school is not for everyone. Students will be enrolled in college courses immediately and this has proven to be difficult for some individuals. The school also does not offer after-school sports (students can still participate, just at their neighborhood school), however there is an abundance of clubs on various days that almost all students participate in. Parents also need to understand that micromanaging their students' coursework is a no-go here. College professors sometimes outright refuse to speak with parents as they only communicate with the students themselves. Don't be turned off by this - it simply encourages the students to learn how to speak to their professors when they need help (questions, extensions, etc). In my opinion, this is one of the most important life skills that is taught at the school. That being said, parents are still a HUGE part of the Early College family and are encouraged to volunteer whenever possible. The school provides ample opportunities for families to get involved and participate in their kids' high school experience. I truly loved my experience here. I am so proud of my students and I had so much fun watching them develop into incredible, thoughtful, intelligent, and creative individuals.Teacher Review7mo ago - Check out schools near 444 Irving St.

"I've lived here for 5 years. There are lots of security guards and police officers as well as all types of medical field professionals. Everyone over here is neighborhood watch and just because we don't speak to each other on site doesn't mean that we are not looking out for one another. "

"I have lived in this area for 14 years and have had a wonderful experience. I raised two children here, made many friends, and have been involved with the Ardmore Neighborhood Association. A great place to live, especially for couples and families. Might be a little pricey for retirees and not enough night life for singles."

"This is a great neighborhood the shopping is 5 min away, schools close by, and two big hospitals nearby. Fits all needs for any type of family. The neighborhood is very quiet, walk to work and church."

"This area is a fantastic place to live. Close to both hospitals, there are side walks and safe roads for those who want to bike or walk to work. There is also a bus line at the top of the street for those who may need public transportation. A great spot for those with pets as well. Lots of green areas for walking."
