NIH and the Defense Medical Center (formerly Navy Medical Hospital) within walking distance as is the Metro subway station and the MARC commuter train in Kensington. An assortment of restaurants and stores (Safeway, Kensington Pharmacy, Hardware City, CVS and others are within walking distance. Savannah's, a sports bar and grill, is a great sandwich place. Parkwood is patrolled by the Montgomery County Police, but the neighborhood is quiet and the crime rate is very low. "
