This is a fantastic community for students to grow.

After over a year of battling the school over my special needs son being bullied at the school, the school has done nothing to amiliorate the bullying at the school and just before winter break a student spat on my child at school. The school has done nothing to address the situation properly and so it continues to be an unsafe environment for special needs kids under Principal Jen Bailey. They talk about anti-bullying policies but instead my son has been treated like a bullies' pinata there. No one there is at all bothered that my special needs son was spat on there. This is consistent with many years of trying to get competent help from a school district that treats kids like this as an unwanted obligation, eager to make things so miserable that the parents are forced to change schools. Dave Brown and his klan have left this school district in ruins, broke and supported by a town that refuses to properly fund their schools. Under no circumstances would I recommend enrolling your kids in this school district and specifically Mt. View Middle School. It's a shame as I spent many years volunteering in both my kids classes , but all thst good will has eroded with years damage to my son from Mt. View. They have slowed walked the complaints, in hopes of my son aging out before they have to actually do the right thing. Luckily, I have an ODE and civil rights complaints currently pending.

My daughter graduated in 2016, she experienced both the small schools and the current single school designs. I loved her small school, Green was our color and Mrs. Pugsley was our Principal, knew her kids and where they were academically. AP courses where highly encouraged. When the transition happened we were well prepared, our daughter continued on the AP, Portland Community College course track. Our daughter is currently attending college in NY and is thriving.Factors, self-motivation, great small school foundation, and great higher level AP teachers that were very supportive. This is not going to be everyone's experience, some kids will need more nudges than others, I do believe that if staff and teachers are familiar with your students situation, their particular needs they will do all they can to assist. Like anything else, get their attention early, be in touch with your student’s world and I think success is not hard to achieve.There is a caring alt ed option for students with non-mainstream education needs.
