We moved from across the county for the Hampton schools. Wyland is a nice neighborhood school with small family-like circles where most of the kids get to know each other. Parents who choose to get involved are offered a lot of opportunities to engage. Newcomers can easily find their niche and make friends quickly. This small feel school is much different from the surrounding gigantic oversized impersonal school districts.We've had nothing but good things to say with the K-3 teachers. 4th and 5th aren't bad either, there are certainly worse teachers out there. Our kids excelled with the teachers effort plus our push at home. My kids have never been in any sort of trouble and both regularly test into advanced IEPs. I disagree with the constant testing as to whether or not they should remain in advanced IEPs, but generally it seems to be a good program to help advance their advanced skills.My primary complaint is giving kids only 20 minutes for lunch. Kids need a break from the grind and need to just chat and not worry about eating fast. 10 more minutes would NOT be an issue in the big picture. Alas it seems the obsession with test scores means that they need that extra 10 minutes for schooling.The reason no 5 star rating is the principal. She has a surface appearance of kindness but really just cares about optics. She often and regularly ignores parental concerns, is terrible at communication, and frequently pushes ideas that arent based in the core mission of a school which is ABCs and 123s... otherwise known as education. She seems to strive for the bare minimum rather than excellence. Fortunately the amazing staff and teachers make up for her incompetence.

It sucks haha and I hate it so much

The special education is not good. School is not clear about if need early dismissel
