My son attended 1st grade here. His teacher, Ms Friesen, was amazing. She encouraged development and imagination, recognized slower learning spots that needed more attention, and always kept in contact with me on my son's accomplishments as well as any concerns. The principal is very involved with all the kids and pleasantly accessible to parents. Safe environment that encourages community and teaches manners and peer respect. Great anti-bully campaign on a daily basis.

Terrible school. They don't let certain students go to the bathroom because they are transgender, this leads to them having leaky bladders, or becoming dehydrated because they don't want to drink so they don't have to use the restroom. Not only that, but they also always run out of food for students and get mad at them when they throw the disgusting soggy "grilled" cheese sandwiches on the floor, now I don't think throwing the food on the floor is the best approach to the issue, but I can't blame the students for doing it, the food looks and tastes disgusting and often smells bad too. They also refuse to change the names on the Google accounts of transgender students, it would be so easy to do this but they refuse because they are transphobic. Their approach to bullying is terrible because they always believe the teachers first and act like the students are always lying and the teachers can do whatever they want. The administration has random outbursts where they dresscode a bunch of students for no reason. Overall this school is terrible and if I got my dream house for free, but I had to attend this school/send my children there, I would not accept the house. FULL OF TRANSPHOBES AND HOMOPHOBES.

I’ve had 4 children go through this school and it’s been an amazing experience. We’ve been very happy with the teachers, administrators, counselors, nurses, paras & other staff they’ve had interaction with. There is a sense of community in the school. You can tell the staff truly cares about the students. My children each got what they needed individually and I was always pleased to see their growth each year.

Moved from the UK and placed our daughter in MCE. She has been there for 2 years and loves the place. All teachers and support staff are wonderful!

I honestly didn't want to review this "school" because there is no option to give zero stars and honestly I don't think it deserves that. The main reason it is bad is because of the principal, she is new and is, to say the least, a terrible leader, I'm not sure what school she went to, but it definitely isn't accredited. She is just awful in every way. I try to find something good about everyone, but so can't think of a single good thing about her. Ok school, pretty good teachers, terrible principal.

My son is a type 1 diabetic and has ADHD and they are wonderful with him. All the teachers that we have encountered areso kind and have big hearts

I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about our oldest son’s Maize South Intermediate School experience so far! Our family moved from Arizona into West Wichita just days before the 2025-2026 school year began. We assumed it would be challenging for our son to start at a new school in a new state as a 6th grader, but every aspect of his experience so far has truly been a dream come true!Before the school year even started, I received a call from Mr. Slattery, the 6th grade school counselor. He saw that our son has a 504 Plan for ADHD, so he wanted to find out how MSIS could help support him. Mr. Slattery gave our son preferential scheduling and ensured that his teachers would provide him with preferential seating along with all the other accommodations included in his 504 Plan. I cannot tell you how much reassurance this provided for our son as well as my husband and me!In addition to the counselor, we have found every single staff member at MSIS to be truly wonderful in every way! The principal, Mrs. LaMunyon, and the vice principal, Mr. Klein, are both incredibly warm and approachable, which sets the tone for all of the staff members and the school environment in general. Each time I walk into the front office, the staff are super friendly, and always seem happy to be there. Mrs. Rodell, the librarian, is yet another friendly face who is often seated at the front of the school sharing information about upcoming school events. Despite serving hundreds of students, she often has personal anecdotes to share about our son each time we see her.As for our son's teachers, I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful they all are! He is absolutely thriving in all of his subject areas as well as his specials classes, and enjoys telling us about everything he has learned. We have enjoyed all of his teachers so much, so I asked if it would be possible to request the same Hall for his younger brother. Back in Arizona, our son used to look for every little excuse to miss school and stay home. Now, he is extremely motivated to maintain his perfect attendance record this year. He even had us return home a day early from our recent ski vacation so he wouldn't miss school. When I tell people that our oldest son actually likes school now, he corrects me and says, “Mom- I don't like school. I LOVE school!" We truly cannot thank MSIS enough for all they do to support our son and provide him with such a spectacular educational experience!
