What Locals Say about Halstead

  • Jacquetjeanne444
"There is no dog park where we can allow our dogs to run. It was proposed, but denied. Most of my neighbors walk their dogs in the park nearby or use tie-outs and have to pick up the yard around the apartment buildings."
  • Jacquetjeanne444
"Great schools, town- wide activities. The town is growing and there is a strong younger age group that comes from the Army post at Fort Riley."
  • Jacquetjeanne444
"I live in a quiet pet and child friendly neighborhood. Low income housing is across the street and a park is around the block. The town is about 2000 people and is quiet and mostly rural. The school activities are a big deal."
  • Jacquetjeanne444
"Rural community. 2000 approximately. Close to three large cities. Easy access to doctors, shopping. Great schools."
  • Jacquetjeanne444
"There are a lot of dogs here and many people enjoy walking their dogs. Small town of 2000 people and not all streets are paved or have sidewalks."
  • Jacquetjeanne444
"The sidewalks are not available on every street. Most are well maintained. There are quite a few feral cats around. The yards are well kept and people are friendly."
  • Jacquetjeanne444
"Dog friendly and quiet. The people are friendly and watch out for each other. Low income housing is well maintained and the area of town I reside in is on the edge of town, But has easy access to downtown and highways to Wichita, Hutchinson and Newton."

"I’ve lived here for 16 years and I’ve always loved the city of Halstead. I feel safe and I love knowing everyone. "
  • Marsha H.
"I have lived here til age 18, then moved back 24 years ago to finish rearing my kids here. It's a wonderful quiet community with excellent public schools, where kids learn to be good students, good athletes, caring contributors to the school & community. Peaceful& Quiet, except on football game nights. Both my husband & I and all 3 of our kids graduated from Halstead High USD 440. All 3 of my kids went on to college. They now live & work in LA, Boston & Kansas City. I would not hesitate to recommend this location for raising a family. It's close enough to 3 other cities (Hutchinson, Newton, & Wichita) to drive for work, but out of the hub bub, noise and crime of larger cities. "
  • Marsha H.
"I grew up here and moved on to live in 5 other states due to job transfers. I have been back in Halstead since 1989. I finished raising 3 teens here. Unlike the big city, the entire community of teachers, parents and business owners, cares about and watches out for our kids. This is a warm, caring community - a good place to call home."
  • Marsha H.
"After having lived in 5 states, and several major cities, I was happy to "come home" to Halstead in 1989 to raise my then 3 teens and pre-teens. I could let them be kids, knowing that the school was excellent, and the community would help mold them. They have all grown up, gone on to college, and become productive citizens. I love the safety of the area, so have chosen to commute the 30 minutes each way into Wichita for work for the past 20 years, rather than live there. It's close enough for good shopping, restaurants, and nightlife, but I have the peace and quiet of my house in the country."
