This is a furnished long-term cottage rental in the historic hamlet of Balmville in the town of Newburgh. The setting is quiet, on a National Historic Register farm property, set among other estate properties

We prefer to maintain it as a long-term rental, and offer a month-to-month lease. This is a peaceful, private property best suited to one occupant due to the size and layout of the cottage. The property offers a beautiful country setting, but it is real rural living best for someone who appreciates nature, values privacy, and is comfortable with the rhythms and realities of farm-country life.

The right fit for both the tenant and property owners is important, due to the nature of the setting.

We are 1 hour from NYC, and 10 minutes from Beacon and Metro North trains to the city.

We prefer quiet, thoughtful tenants who understand and respect the unique character and history of the property. This is a unique rental for someone who wants to be closely connected nature, live on an historic farm, and contribute to the quality and energy of the setting.

We would prefer a single tenant who is looking for a respite from chaos of the world.

About the Farm

STONEGATE FARM is an 1850s estate farm in New York's Hudson River Valley, one hour North of New York City. We grow and create beauty and wellness products from our flowers, herbs and fruit for CULTIVATE APOTHECARY as well as open the farm up to community each season for wellness events, suppers at DIRT KITCHEN, and workshops.

Originally part of a large estate, the National Historic Register farm buildings and Italianate Villa have each been meticulously restored, while the surrounding land is in cultivation as a local, organic farm, herbal and wellness center, and teaching venue. The farm is small, sustainable, bio-intensive and integrated into a non-farm district; a model of local, small-scale community farming that is central to the owner's philosophy. The farm serves a diverse local community, as well as a national audience through its profiles in articles, books and magazines as a model of small-scale, sustainable organic agriculture.

There’s a great art scene with wonderful galleries and strong community service representation."

There are several gems in the area if you’re willing to look. Being right on the water is a huge plus.
