4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a former student of the middle school (despite its name, Anna Yates goes up to 8th grade), I warn every parent that cares about their student's academic and emotional wellbeing to send their kids somewhere else. At one point, they didn't even have a math teacher. It was a series of substitutes and then a projection of a teacher talking to them remotely. The discipline at this school is dismal. There are genuinely mentally unwell teachers at this school, who pick on the kids and choose sides like they're still 15 in some high school movie. The administration will almost always believe the staff. I have not only experienced this firsthand with about a handful of other students, but have witnessed this across grades as well. I will not go into detail, but the office does not know how to handle the simplest of issues without enlarging it and making it ten times worse. DO NOT send your kids to this school, and if you already have kids here, BELIEVE THEM and take them out.Other Review6mo ago22 Reviews - Emery Secondary School

"Emeryville is close to everything and really easy to commute from. It’s as close as you can be to San Francisco from East Bay."

"I love living near the greenway and Emeryville is a great little spot. It’s close to everything and easy to get to SF or Marin. Compared to Oakland, the roads and parks are really well maintained; feels much safer than immediate surroundings in neighboring Oakland and Berkeley. "

"Very dog friendly. There's plenty of dog parks and most places allow your dog in with you. Picking up your dog poop is a must though! "

"Great parks for dogs to play in. I love the family feel, definitely a younger family type of feel, working professionals in their mid-30s. Love the food and shops popping up."

"You see so many people walking dogs and many are very kind and respectful owners. The sidewalks are maintained and there’s dog parks and fields for them to play."

"Lots of dogs in the area. Fairly responsible about picking up after themselves. Lots of foxtails (a weed that can harm dogs if they make their way into a dog’s body) in the area. One or two dog parks in the area, but ideal if you can have your own yard around here to have your own safe space to play. There are a number of great dog walkers and pet services in the area that cater to dog care. "

"The foxtails are unmanageable and you have to be really careful walking your dogs. Very few secure dog parks and not enough trash bins to dispose poop bags"

"There are a several schools in the area. There are several well maintained open spaces to play and exercise. Kids are not usually running/biking/etc around in the residential streets together unattended after school or during the summer, that I have noticed."

"Dog owners should be aware of the very high amount of dangerous foxtail plant, which can cause significant (and very expensive and possibly deadly) damage if they penetrate your dog’s paws, mouth, nose, ears, etc. Also depending on the street, some areas have more trash than others. There aren’t a ton of great spots to exercise your dogs, if you don’t have any yard. It’s not unfriendly for dogs, but it’s not overwhelmingly welcoming either. "

"There's a decent dog park by 63rd and Christie Ave. Overall, there's good walk paths and areas for dog parents"

"There are some great green spaces, including a small park for younger kids. There are a ton of food options but most of them are for more expanded food palates (though that is changing). Streets are pretty busy and a train runs through the center of the city. It’s great for keeping young ones entertained, not great for keeping the youngest asleep."

"It’s great because it has access to so many great places in Berkeley, Oakland and SF, but it’s also a quiet place to live outside of those cities where you can drive to local stores and live in peace"

"although there is a park nearby where children can play, it's not safe to walk around after dark alone. I would not leave a child under 12 unaccompanied in this neighborhood at anytime."

"It’s ok. There’s a lot of crime within this small community. There are a lot of commuters, small businesses and not enough families and kids. We are moving to Marin. "

"Emeryville is more of a commuter town. Not many families. We have a nice apt building with a great view. But that’s about it. "

"Emeryville Feels more industrial. Not great for families. Schools are not great. Not much of a community. Mostly commuters. Apartments are cheaper than SF but more than other areas. "

"Clean and safe. Very walkable and nice bike paths as well. A lot of restaurants are only open on weekdays during business hours, so not as great for residents. But a good handful of places we can get to easily. AC transit into SF is very convenient."
