Housatonic Valley Regional High School has serious concerns when it comes to supporting students, especially those who rely on special education services. Many students and families feel the system moves far too slowly when IEPs or 504 Plans need changes or when additional support is clearly required. These delays can leave students struggling academically, emotionally, and socially for long periods of time.There is also a strong concern that student needs are not always addressed proactively. This inconsistency raises concerns about how reliably and fairly supports are being implemented from the beginning.Communication with families is another major issue. Updates are often limited, and families are not consistently included in ongoing planning or progress discussions. More frequent and transparent communication should be standard, not something that only happens when problems become serious.Overall, many believe the school urgently needs to improve its responsiveness, accountability, and special education supports. This school used to be a place where we felt safe leaving our children. In the past year, though, things have changed drastically with new staff. Teachers ignore bullying, show favoritism to well-connected students, and some even mistreat kids. The principal promises change with a smile, but nothing ever improves. It's all just empty talk.
