Horrible experience with this school.In my experience, Buena Vista Elementary has not taken bullying seriously. Last year, my son was physically bullied by three 5th-grade students on the school bus. He was slapped around by the students, and the bus driver claimed she didn’t “see or hear” anything. However, the bus cameras captured what happened.What was especially upsetting was that my son, who was the victim and did not physically touch the other student, was also suspended because he “talked back” to the bully. In other words, my son was disciplined alongside the student who physically assaulted him simply because he verbally responded.I have also repeatedly reported inappropriate sexual and homophobic conversations happening among students, including students making comments about being “gay” and talking about “gay porn.” I have reported these concerns to the school multiple times, including providing the names of the students involved, and these conversations are still reportedly happening.This is an elementary school, and I should not have to repeatedly raise concerns about bullying and inappropriate conversations and feel like nothing is being done. Parents should be able to trust that their children are safe at school and on the school bus, and that when a child is being bullied, the response will protect the victim rather than punish them for speaking up.I am extremely disappointed with how these situations have been handled and hope the school takes these concerns more seriously going forward.
