The kids are very mean a lot of fights happen and the special education isn’t very good.

Wheat Ridge High School is an excellent traditional high school offering a large number of honors and AP course options, an excellent music and theater department (best in the district!), unique STEM program with STEM diploma, athletic opportunities, and many supports for all students. The school has a diverse student population that allows all students to find their place. Both of my kids have been very happy, challenged, and supported at WRHS.

Stevens is amazing. The culture is welcoming, and the priority is making every child feel like a valued member of "CREW." There are a hundred little reasons the school is great, but they boil down to: kids are seen, supported, and celebrated for who they are - and the staff believes that every kid is part of the community. If you've got a 2E kid, seriously consider attending, they get it here.At Stevens, kids are valued contributors to a community built on connection, growth, and mutual respect. If your child has a disability, they will not be harshly disciplined for it or treated as a problem. This school has an autism center program, which means all kids benefit from staff empathy for differences. If your child is a GT kid, they will also be cultivated as a whole person - not treated like an achievement/compliance robot.To give a flavor:1. Daily “Crew” assemblies bring students together; they sing the school anthem & talk about values. It sets the tone for the day and creates a shared community. It's also fun.2. The GT program is thoughtfully integrated into the school at large. GT kids are mostly mixed into gen ed classrooms, but GT kids get pulled out for math block together (daily; mix of grade levels) and deep dive on GT curriculum. It builds broader social skills and creates a bigger social group for all the kids; GT kids specifically avoid developing unhealthy perfectionism.3. Respect. Teachers treat kids like full humans, with needs & gifts, and give each day a fresh start. By giving respect - teachers show by example, and motivates the kids to reciprocate.4. The kids are engaged. Example: my kid's class can earn (collectively) "compliments" for pro-social positive behaviors/collective action. When they earn enough compliments, then the class earns a reward together - like a pajama day at school or a dance "party". Small, but special. It helps keep the motivation for all the kids to work hard & as a team. 5. Growth is the goal. "High Quality Work" is proudly displayed, not for perfection, but for effort and pride. For 2E kids especially, this builds grit and resilience. For all the kids, it shows everyone has something to contribute. In an age of AI, it's more important than ever to teach kids how to build a community together.We choiced into Stevens and are so grateful. Our child is making close friendships and learning in a space that builds real community—one that includes everyone!
