Stunning, custom built Scandinavian log home set on 1.5 alpine acres with thousands of acres of National Forest access right out the door. The entire log kit was shipped from Finland, and there are only 5 of these exceptional homes built in all of La Plata County. A discerning Buyer can not overlook the expert craftsmanship in constructing this very unique and modern log home, which boasts both elegance and high energy efficiency. The precision wood detailing can be admired from every room... enjoy modern cut logs tightly woven together, lofty ceilings, incredible beams, gorgeous doors and hardware, as well as large custom windows for plenty of natural light and bringing the outdoors inside. Featuring 4+ bedrooms and 3 baths in over 3200 sf, this private home is positioned for lovely views of the surrounding alpine forest and public lands. The main level features the classic Colorado stone fireplace, centered in the Great Room and easily enjoyed from the open kitchen and dining area. Beautiful tiled floors span the entire main level. The spacious kitchen features custom cabinetry, a large pantry and stainless appliances as you'd expect in home of this quality. The cozy main level master bedroom features an en suite bathroom with double sinks and a walk in closet. A beautiful set of open tread wood stairs leads you to the upper level, which features a grand loft area, large full bathroom, two additional bedrooms, and an office/flex space. A big bonus on this floor is a partially finished storage area, measuring approximately 9 ' x 20' and complete with hardwood floors. Heading downstairs from the main floor, the finished walkout lower level features a large family room, full bathroom and bedroom, and is perfect for giving guests or older children some space to spread out. This floor was finished with plenty of windows, keeping natural light in mind. The laundry room is here and houses a side by side washer/dryer. A mechanical room/workshop is located on this level as well, lending to extra storage and perfect for keeping the handyman in the family busy. Just a few of the upgrades in this unique home include (but certainly aren't limited to): a professional grade retaining wall that spans the entire length of the fully asphalted driveway, custom rock walls in the front and the back of the house adding interest to the natural scape of the forested 1.5 acres, multiple covered porches and a range of deck spaces that offer incredible outdoor areas for entertaining or relaxing. Functionally speaking, heat systems have been added underneath portions of the roof to help with snow management in bigger winters, there's a large fenced dog run for your furry children, and a darling outdoor shed was constructed to match the main house, which could be used for storage, a garden shop or even a children's playhouse. An easy to overlook and expensive upgrade in this home was the conversion from propane to natural gas. The attached two car garage makes getting groceries and goods to and from the car easy, and the large, asphalted driveway pad has plenty of room to turn around or park extra cars. There are not many rural homes that offer this kind of quality craftsmanship, size, acreage and proximity to public lands.... with central water and natural gas. If you are an experienced Buyer patiently waiting for that special Colorado mountain home to present itself at the right price, look no further... at under $180/sf, this exquisitely maintained and crafted home will appeal to your good taste and your wallet.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe teachers are very nice and supportive, and bullying isn't that much of an issue if you don't stand out very much. But the overall atmosphere is not great and I believe this middle school has its flaws as it is being far from perfect. I noticed that in this school the teachers really try to do everything in order to teach students well, and I feel like this school is below average. It's pretty old and dirty, some kids vape (popular girls), test scores aren't great; but that's really the only flaws I've noticed so far.Student Review9mo ago - Bayfield High School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school district has gone downhill over the past few years, particularly the High School. Bullying is rampant, and principals do a poor job of reigning it in. Superintendent Aten is incompetent and over his head. The school district's handling of the pandemic has been laughable. This past year the school district has banned some books from classroom collections and has called for all books that may contain "controversial" subject matter be removed from classroom collections. Shame on the recent and current school board and district administration and principals.Parent Review2y ago - Bayfield Primary School

"Great family community. Friendly neighbors and a great location with schools near. This is a growing community with not a whole lot of options to source from but thankfully it’s only a 20 min drive to many stores, restaurants and the historic town of Durango "
