About this House

This French Place residence in 78722, originally a 1920s church in Hyde Park, was moved in 1940 and repurposed as a home. The home was rebuilt from the ground up in 2010 with a contemporary design concept for entertaining and displaying a personal art collection.

The exterior two story building consists of a single angle metal roof with a blend of exterior materials including repurposed long leaf pine from the original church, smooth surface stucco and vertical metal siding, nested behind a large live oak tree.

Stepping into the home through a custom 8' steel door, the mind transitions from the reverence of a previous church into a beautiful gallery environment with high ceilings, tall casement framed windows, and soft textured white walls.

The downstairs contains the connected social spaces of living room, dining room and kitchen, as well as the guest bedroom with office nook and guest bathroom with luxury tub.

Moving up the floating staircase of Ipe wood, steel and glass, the second floor landing is an open space media room with built in wall speakers and large format window. This connects to both a second bedroom with walk in closet as well as the master bedroom with a dedicated yoga/gym space, reach in closets, and private balcony. The north corridor is a walk through space of bathroom, walk in shower, and master bathroom with double sinks.

The backyard is xeriscape with granite gravel and Zosia artificial turf, and a Tigerwood fence serves as the perimeter, all ensuring both an aesthetic and private experience. The stone patio allows for an outdoor living space while the white Oaks and Cedar Elm create an abundance of shade. There is also a concrete slab with dedicated 240V for a jacuzzi. For those that work from home or would like a dedicated detached bedroom, there is a stand alone 200 sf building with AC/Heat with large windows.

The home is located just 2 miles from downtown, and only a few short blocks to the University of Texas and St David's Hospital. The walkable neighborhood includes the Manor Road business district with various restaurants, bars, and a theatre. Green spaces include nearby pocket parks, trails along Willowbrook creek, and the expansive Patterson Park with tennis courts, playgrounds, community garden, seasonal pool, and more.

  • Laurie S.
"I have lived here for nine years— the neighborhood just gets better with time, though the housing prices and property taxes are through the roof. "
  • Jnh1150
"A great area except for 3300 Hemlock. Its a cheap rental that brings a rotation of irresponsible losers into an otherwise nice family neighborhood. There's garbage, mattresses, abandoned furniture, couches, and all sort of unappealing crap in the front yard. A real eyesore and health risk. Apparently the Hide Park owner's don't seem to care about it. Really unfortunate for an otherwise great neighborhood. "
