7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school has been the scene of many violent altercations on school property-bathrooms, classrooms, hallways, bus stop and more- that require security to intervene. Classrooms built for teaching are disrupted due to violence that requires teachers to act like bouncers instead of educators. The administration at all levels is aware of the level of violence but will not acknowledge it with formal reports to MCPS. Multiple videos are readily available for review that document the violence that endangers students. PBHS has great potential with its relatively new facilities ,however ,the special education services do not meet the needs of the students and the iEP meetings fail to offer action plans that result in increased academic performance, graduation rates or college readiness. Before sending your child to this school, ask to see the security logs regarding violent incidents on school property and compare them to other schools. These should be available from MCPS ,however ,this is not likely. . The safety and education of your child is at stake. Bullying is not taken seriously a when brought to the attention of the administration. Some students are targeted repeatedly with violent confrontations which makes learning an unrealistic option.Parent Review1mo ago - Sherwood Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSherwood Elementary School sure has changed over the years. Ever since the current principal took over, Sherwood has gone downhill quick. It used to be such a cheerful sunny place, with a glowing reputation that continued for years. Historically, Sherwood was always in the 8-9/10 range. Now, things are very different. The current 7/10 rating is a huge stretch. Slowly but surely, all the best teachers have left. Staff morale is down. Families who are able are leaving en masse- and it's not because of the pandemic. The teachers aren't teaching, and the students aren't learning. There is little classroom control, and equally, little to no consequences for the children who repeatedly misbehave. It's not safe. There is no homework, and little accountability is placed on the students academically or otherwise. The main focus is on the test scores. Children are not getting the academic, social, or emotional support they need. Parents on the whole are unhappy. All of this is directly related to the administration. It all comes down from the top. Sadly, Sherwood is no longer the safe, sweet thriving little school it once was. Sherwood Elementary School sure has changed, and sadly, it's not for the better.Parent Review1y ago - Springbrook High School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI currently go there, and the experience is amazing! The staff is diverse (mostly), and the teachers educate well and are funny. Bullying is rare and I haven't seen an incident of this except once. Also, there are many extracurricular activities that you can choose from. The school building is clean and has a whole floor per grade level! Everything about it is amazing. If you're thinking about enrolling your child here, please do so. You won't regret it!Student Review2y ago - James Hubert Blake High School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBlake is a great school if you like art like dance and stuff. While i at blake i took tap class and it was wonderful to learn the school has many classes to choose form but one downfall is that they have bad kids and it can be distracting in class and they always have fights in school but overall it a good school for arts and stuff.Other Review10y ago - Check out schools near 3320 Megans Way.

What Locals Say about Olney

"So far I’ve lived in Leisure World for 4 years, it’s okay, not so much the hype it wants to be though! Security is totally unprofessional, and neighbors are just that neighbors. There’s a cost for everything here that involves activities except walking. The Giant grocery store is the worst Giant in this area better to just go to the one in Olney, other than the above mentioned enjoy Leisure World of Silver Spring not Olney! "

"Excellent elementary school, safety and healthy food store. However, when your child goes to middle and high school the rating is ber poor for my assessment they do not carry out on the same academic, social, equality and diversity in the schools system is not rationally available at either academic level. Overall the neighborhood is great. Been here 26 years."

"There isn’t a lot of diversity and sometimes you can feel like everyone is apart of some kind of a click. However I feel safe most of the time and there is definitely a small town feel. "

"We have lived here for about 24 years and found it a very nice, mostly quiet, and safe place. We live on a cul-de-sac which boosts the quiet factor considerably. It’s growing now, but at a rate that still feels good."
