"I live right near Arlington, a bus line, so that's really nice. but getting anywhere past the river that isn't downtown is 40+ minute commute; 30 minutes if the busses line up (rare, & if you expect it, the 48 WILL be late to the nearest transfer bus) and could be over an hour if it's not on another bus line or it's away from oakland, greenfield, etc. I recommend private transportation if you have anyy debilitating reasons you don't choose to walk. but if you love to walk, the slopes are perfect commute-wise. "

"Goatfest! Also the baseball games up here. When I was younger, the neighborhood parents would have get togethers for the neighborhood kids."
  • Trulia User
"Great public transportation. various bases to travel to downtown, Oakland, Shadyside, North side. Many stops along the way . "
  • Trulia User
"A great neighborhood to raise children. Nice neighborhood, lots of convenience, crime is low here . I love this area. "
  • Trulia User
"I haven’t lived on the south side before, but I’ve been there shopping and visiting friends who have lived in the neighborhood, and always thought it to be friendly, and has a very cozy feeling to it"
  • Quinn K.
"Good workout because of the hills but sidewalks and roadsides are always littered with debris. Not safe for paws!"
  • Alena H.
"I don’t always feel very safe. Being close to the park it’s not as bad as other areas but still not the greatest neighborhood"
  • Lauren F.
"There are sidewalks for walking but from my experience there is never much yard space. However there are a lot of dogs in the neighborhood."
  • Diannamarie20192019
"I always 💘 the Christmas spirit. The 🚌 ( bus) service is good. You just have to use good judgment when you talk to certain people."
  • Jazmine S.
"There’s Always dogs out or someone walking there dog . People are nice and some times clean up after there dogs. Dogs are usually always nice I don’t remember coming across a mean dog"
  • Dandenillo
"I take my dogs for a walk all the time take the kids up to park to play go up the field and catch ball"
  • Antoinette A. P.
"I take the 51 to and from work, and the 54 into the strip district to shop. They both run fairly frequently, less so on the weekends."
  • CD
"There is a very nice dog park for small and large dogs. There are coffee shops and restaurants in the area that allow dogs. There is a very clean and respected veterinary clinic. One of the biggest negatives is the lack of yards and grass in the area. There are hiking trails and a huge park that we often take our own dog too at the top of the slopes. "
  • R.lane1858
"The views and the accessibility. It’s so easy to get anywhere downtown, Oakland, or the north shore quickly. Bus lines are everywhere. "
  • Ladashia B.
"Lived here for 2 years it’s a lot of cars that go by so it’s busy but I like it. I’m lookin for a bigger home though."
  • Anna T.
"It's cheaper than the flats and you hear less drunken fights. Parking is a huge pain but the convenience of the location is worth it. "
  • Caroline b.
"The neighborhood association is very well run. We’ve enjoyed improving our house and our neighbors seem grateful we’re fixing it up, too."
