"Great neighborhood for raising a family! Very little traffic. Kids can ride their bikes and feel safe. The one drawback of living in our area is there are no sidewalks or street lights. We’re in the unincorporated area of Lafayette."

"My neighbourhood has awful access to public transport. I don’t have a car at the moment. If I want to go into town it’s an hour & 20min walk both ways. It keeps me fit, I guess. We just moved here from Chicago, so it’s a bit of a culture shock. I survived 8 years there with no car. 3 of those years were with kids. The first week we were here, I thought I’d take the kids into SF to see their dads new workplace. I walked for 40mins uphill, pushing a stroller with my 3.5yo and carrying my 1year old on my back so we could catch a bus from St Mary’s College (that runs very not very often) to Orinda BART into SF. Not an experience I would repeat. We probably should have just walked into Lafayette and got the BART from there I need to get my UK licence changed to a CA one, so I can get on the insurance to drive my husbands car"

"When the power transformers explode, a line comes down, a neighbor has an accident, the tree cutting service smashes into the fire hydrant and floods my garage with water, a cyclist gets hit by a car and the kids run around at halloween, everyone comes together pretty quickly and there’s always people around during the day to help. Seriously good people but mother nature and other factors definitely keep it exciting."

"It was the first place I lived when I moved to CA, 16 years ago. I was in my mid 20s & single, so I moved to SF as soon as I could but as soon as I got married & had a kid, I wanted to come back. It’s a great place for kids!"

"I walk to work at a local coffee shop. I drive to school in Berkeley. The commute is fairly easy save for returning to town on the 24 at rush hour. "

"I don’t commute, but my husband commutes to SF using BART. His commute including driving to BART varies between 50 minutes on a good day and 90 minutes on a really bad day."

"Big yards here, good for raising Cujo right!. Lots of great trails and back streets to walk poochie on. People are tolerant of dogs. Not too many pit bulls around though."

"Very easy freeway and bart access via Deer Hill Road. Pleasant Hill road can back up but we don’t have to go too far down so it never takes more than 5-10 minutes in traffic. "
