About this House

Welcome to The Berwick Retreat - a private, cape-style farmhouse, with an industrial-modern flair, set on 2 wooded acres in a peaceful Berwick neighborhood. With over 2900 square feet, including 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a first-floor primary suite, a finished bonus room over the garage, and a mudroom with custom built-ins, this home blends a calming aesthetic with flexible functionality.

The property stands apart with an attached 2 car garage plus a wired 24ftx40ft two-level, contemporary barn - a rare setup for workshop space, woodworking, vehicles, equipment, tools, outdoor gear, storage, or serious hobby use.

Inside, exposed beams, oak floors, and a modern industrial farmhouse kitchen create a distinct sense of character. The kitchen features a concrete center island, newer energy-efficient appliances, and custom counters made with reclaimed wood from an old Biddeford mill. Refreshed baths bright updated second-floor finishes, hardwired Ethernet, and a custom primary closet add move-in-ready comfort for everyday living and remote work.

Outdoor living is a major highlight, with a screened porch off the kitchen, stone patio, wooded views, level lawn, tasteful reclaimed brick accents and a paved drive that frames the home and barn with estate-like presence. In the Summer, wild blueberries grow along the property edge - a detail that adds to the charm. Practical upgrades include a whole-home generator, wood heat backup, alarm/water monitoring, smart devices and cameras, septic risers, and a Drylok-treated walkout basement for clean storage and future-use potential.

Rarely does a Southern Maine property combine this much privacy, utility, character, and flexibility. This true retreat is built for modern living, working, gathering, storing, creating, and unwinding, with convenient access to town, shopping, the Shipyard and Seacoast commuter routes. Showings start Friday the12th at 2:00. Open house Saturday the 13th 11-1 & Sunday the 14th 10-12 .

"Good neighborhood, safe, quiet, easy commutes, friendly, good school system, quaint, farms, golf courses"
  • Leah R.
"Nice to walk dogs lots of children and friendly neighbors. Lived here for 3 years"
  • Katie L.
"It's a nice loop so walking your dog on a quiet road is nice and easy to do. it is hard though because the front yards of people's homes are the green space available which means your dog will likely pee on some else's yard or plants on the walk. "
  • Brian R.
"My town is great by offering family atmosphere and beautiful landscape with nice houses, great schools and a recreation department that will make your children feel at ease and safe."
  • Voxdcm
"Strawberry festival day, concert in the park series ,playgrounds recreational sports and activities.."
  • Jaymacres
"where I live is a very busy street and the cars go way to fast. I know a woman who was killed on my street walking her dog. there are so many places to go to walk your dog but the convenience of stepping right outside and going isnt always the safest option."
  • Erin B.
"It is a very nice, community oriented downtown setting, without any dangers of a typical downtown area. There are a lot of rents filled with friendly neighbors."
  • Lauren V.
"If you are looking for a private life, quiet, wooded area with lots of land for animals or hunting or snowmobiling. This is it! "
  • dave_palmer5
"I've lived in Berwick for 28 yrs and know this neighborhood which is in my opinion still one of the nicest, well kept rural neighborhoods in Berwick. You feel like your deep in the country, well away from the City traffic and problems, yet your only 10-15 minutes away from any type of shopping needs you have and just 17 miles to Portsmouth, NH. You can be at the York, Wells or Ogunquit beaches in under 30 minutes. If your thing is the Mountains, your just 45 minutes to just over an hour to the White Mountains of NH. You are 45 minutes to Portland Maine, just over an hour to Boston Mass and just minutes to some of the finest dining anywhere. The town of Berwick has one of the Oldest Summer Theaters in the Country, the Hackmatack Playhouse....! The school system is second to none, the town services are excellent, the crime rate is almost non existent when it comes to home invasions or personal attacks. I know this neighborhood has many kids and safe areas to play. I have been in this particular home and would be my first choice to raise a family if I had one. The house is absolutely incredible, the owner very knowledgeable about the home and I learned it was designed to be built in 3 phases, the first built in 1986, 2nd 1995 and the 3rd has yet to be completed. What strikes me as incredible is you could NOT buy a piece of property in a neighborhood like this and build a home like this for the price they are asking.......!!"
