Description

3 BR 1 BA Bungalow in San Mateo. This house was fully renovated from 2019 in to early 2020. I always hated a few small pictures of a house I wanted to rent, so I will try to provide as many pictures and as much description as I can.

This house (~1200 sq ft) was originally built in the 1940's, and is on one of the most convenient neighborhoods in San Mateo. Just a couple houses down from the front door of College Park Elementary School (one of the best elementary schools around), and within sight of San Mateo High, and a brand new renovated park (Martin Luther King park just got totally rebuilt with an amazing soccer field, and there's a community pool, and playgrounds etc). Walk to Safeway, walk to Caltrain, and super easy to get right on 101, or drive a little south on Delaware and skip the 101/92 interchange and jump up to 280. Great location for being between Silicon Valley and SF. Easy commute to either, and minutes to the airport!

You'll see in the pictures that this house has a gorgeous front living room area that flows in to the dining area and kitchen. There are three bedrooms (two in the rear of the house, and a larger one in the front). When we remodeled the house, no expense was spared. The floors were completely redone with REAL solid Oak flooring. The bathroom was expanded and rebuilt completely. Vintage style white subway tile, a custom shower with a separate tub (sunk low in the floor to make it easy to get in and out). The bathroom has special non-slip tiles, and the floor is HEATED in the bathroom. There is even a built-in towel warmer on a timer! Step out of your shower in the morning and be wrapped in a nice toasty towel!

The Fireplace has been redone with handmade Heath tiles bought direct from the Heath Ceramics factory, and the way the dining area opens up into the living room really makes for a nice family space. All of the trim and doors in this house are solid wood (not fiberboard) and they make a huge difference in the feel of the house. Each baseboard was hand fitted to the hardwood, and the doors are all nice a heavy and seal nicely with that satisfying "click."

All of the closets have outlets, so you can keep things like printers and stuff out of the way, and the internet (house is already wired for the fastest internet Comcast has) was routed to the top of the linen closet, to keep things tidy (All those wired hiding behind your TV are gone!)

The kitchen might be the best part of the house, however. It is cozy and has beautiful countertops over custom made real wood cabinets that were designed to be flush closing (exposed hinges like an old house) with reeded glass uppers and lots of drawers, and built-in features like a slide out trash can, and spice rack, etc. The kitchen features an extremely nice range (Thermador professional 5 burner dual fuel, with a Thermador hood), and even has a pot filler built in. Never carry heavy pots of water to the stove again. The sink is a custom fireclay farmhouse sink, with a top of the line Insinkerator (quiet) disposal, and an absolutely beautiful Grohe faucet. The cabinets are all backlit and the house has a built-in microwave, as well as an incredible Liebehrr Fridge (with the special features to keep veggies fresh for much longer than a normal fridge). There's a built in trash drawer (no more gross trash can to trip on), and a super quiet Bosch dishwasher with third utensil rack.

The house has a nice front porch, with room to sit and relax and read a book, and the street is not a busy one at all. The whole front porch is also sheathed in beautiful purple bouganvillia, as well.

This house also had every wire, every pipe, and pretty much all the insulation replaced, and the house is heated (and cooled! This house has Air Conditioning!) by a 4 zone mini-split system. That means that there is a separate heating/cooling unit in each bedroom and one in the living room that can control each zone separately. The compressor for the heater/AC is in the back yard, and there are no ducts in the house to rattle, make noise, and get dusty and full of allergens. The system is extremely quiet and effective, and very efficient.

This house also has amazing gardens, which were designed and planted in January of 2020, so they have grown in VERY nicely. The front yard has a saucer magnolia tree, and a great mixture of camellias, bougainvillea, and other plants chosen to be fragrant and flowering. The back yard has a nice big lawn, as well as a Lime tree, Lemon tree, a Kumquat tree (which is currently producing a LOT of Kumquats), a Plum tree and even a Pomegranate tree. There's also an awesome loquat tree which is decades old and produces a lot of delicious loquats. Not to mention the large assortment of flowering things like Wisteria, Camellias, and a whole row of Roses (some new, and some old and very mature and productive). All of the plants are watered on a highly efficient smart watering system, with valves set up to not overwater while keeping the grass nice, and the fruit trees growing.

The house has an attached single car garage, but also has a nice deep driveway that fits two cars. There are hookups for an electric washer dryer in the garage. Plenty of room to make the garage an art studio, or just to store tons of bikes and kayaks for adventures.

Owner pays gardener, Tenant pays all the rest of the utilities. One year lease (. Absolutely no Smoking or Drugs. Tenant must carry renter's insurance, and pets (only cats considered, no dogs because of the floors and garden and lawns) are Negotiable on a case by case basis. Deposit is one month's rent, applicants subject to Credit Check.

I'll also add that we do not need help renting the house, don't want to sell it, or any of that. So you can save a little time by skipping those offers.

"Is a nice community I liked to live in this city is quiet is nice to live my family my kids we enjoyed "
  • Inesita455
"There are many parks close here where you can go for picnic or just relax and you can play if you want it ok"
  • Mr.Tester
"I moved to San Mateo in 2010. The neighborhood is very quiet and the only people I ever see walking around are neighbors. There is an excellent mix of soon-to-be-seniors, middle age folks and younger folks just starting families. I routinely see children playing and it is nice to know there is still somewhere in the city where they can do so without fear of being shot or attacked. There is also a good mix of people - city employees, firemen, policemen, corporate folks, attorneys and other professionals. The architectural variety is refreshing - many different styles and building decades/dates add quite a bit of character to the neighborhood. There are excellent Catholic and public schools within a few blocks as well as some Jewish schools a little further away. The neighborhood has excellent proximity to the Ocean Expressway and is about a mile or so from the Soho stop on Rivera and Market. On Friday and/or Saturday I am able to take advantage of the number 84 Muni bus to the Red Line or transfer buses and go to the Brown Line so I can avoid drinking and driving. I truly feel lucky to live in this area because I grew up on the south side of the city and always hoped to live in a nice neighborhood. It is quiet and peaceful. Everything I desire and need."
  • Shetal27
"It's tucked away from the main part of town but still easy to walk to. Easy access to the highway, Caltrain, and restaurants."
  • Tjblair

  • Laurie6977
"I've lived in this neighborhood for 20 years. It is a very safe place to live. You can walk to both San Mateo and Burlingame downtown districts. Dog-friendly. Access to public transportation."
  • Monica A. R.
"Could use come closeness with neighbors. We have seen each other but don’t know each other well. I would like more community closeness "
  • BayAreaBuyer
"Easy walk to downtown area and to public transportation. However due to being close to downtown and the freeway it’s often loud. Area can sometimes be shady multiple cars have been broken into. "
