6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have a daughter in 5th grade at Smith. She moved to Smith School from another elementary in Helena and has LOVED her two years with the staff and students. She has excelled in her academics and made long lasting friendships. The teachers and staff do their best to meet the needs of each student where they are at and encourage growth academically, socially, and behaviorally. In response to another review: - my daughter gets hot lunch every day and loves it. There are always meals that are not her favorite but she has never been given moldy or expired food. - the school is located next to the hospital, so ambulance sirens are frequent, but police car sirens are rarely heard. In fact, the police do their best not to have sirens on and are discreet so as not to alarm students at school.Parent Review1y ago3 Reviews - Helena Middle School

"Not many young children in the neighborhood. While there are leash laws many dogs are run off leash, and rarely picked up after. Cats are allowed to run free and often make use of any open patches of soil as make shift litter boxes. "

"Nice area for walking dogs. Lots of options and parts of the trail system cuts through this area. My dogs are very happy here. "

"Plenty of places to walk your dog, though few people actually seem to clean up after their animals. In certain areas this is understandable, e.g. leash free zones, but you shouldn't have to run that risk in your front yard. Largest issue I can see thus far is cat owners that allow their animals to roam. They frequent your yard, kill birds, and defecate in any loose soil they can find. Many municipalities have reasonable codes that hold ALL pet owners responsible for the animals in their care; cats are no different from dogs and should be cleaned up after and monitored."

"Although there is a leash law, some owners walk without one. Also, there is a dog-friendly trailhead nearby."

"There are lots of families with children and the local park has a great playground. Unfortunately there are a LOT of dogs in the neighborhood, many of which run loose, and the barking is nearly constant around the clock. We can't wait to move."
