8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIt’s a shame most reviews here are so outdated. The principal described in the old reviews is long gone. Her replacement, Mr. Blanchard, was a fabulous principal who was admired and respected by students, teachers, and parents. Unfortunately for us, he retired this year. The district is engaged in an exhaustive search to find the right person to be the next principal. The bar is very high now. I have a rising sophomore and another who graduated during the pandemic. I can’t say enough about the way the teachers and administration do everything they can to support students and help them succeed. Both kids have had the same guidance counselor and she has always been very responsive and helpful.Parent Review10mo ago - Unc Hospital School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageVery welcoming when my daughter began in 2/17. I saw her blossom overnight at Smith. She has improved in every class. She made the A/B roll and she struggled at her last school. I'm very happy with the school and the staff.Parent Review6y ago - Northside Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFour words for parents of children with special needs. Advocate For Your Child because no one will. At the same time, the school is vibrant and historically meaningful. We felt the school was decent, and not all teachers were concerned. Never my experience as a parent is of my thoughts. Every child must thrive in a supportive environment with teachers who understand the importance of engaging parents in the child's learning. Not just at the IEP meeting, where a parent is informed of the child's progress. Whatever happens to weekly progress reports? I am disappointed because I didn't see passion as the leading force but mediocrity in my child's classroom. If the parent (I) was not taken seriously, I don't think my child's experience was.Parent Review10mo ago - Check out schools near 311 Sunset Dr #A.

"Your days will be less difficult if you’re at all able to avoid the rush hour windows of 6:30-9:30am, lunch hours, and 3-7pm. The congestion is ridiculously thick, and at this point of heavy convergence: Fordham/15-501, Hwy 54E&W/Raleigh Rd, and an on/off ramp for I-40 less than 2 miles away, the roads are absolutely overwhelming now. Do expect traffic to quadruple (at the VERY least) as soon as just a handful of new developments reach completion. UGH!!"

"I nanny in the area, my two kids have lots of playdates and my neighbors are pretty awesome. The area is residential, no college students really, and a short 20-30 min walk to whole foods, traders Joe's or Harris teeter. There's also University Mall, and a movie theater so lots to do on a pretty day. I've lived in this area for 12 years. Raising a family here and I love it."

"They would fit right in with all the other dog owners. I’m not one though. Some yards need fences. Dogs are a lot of work, and sometimes your friends won’t want them coming along for dinner as part of the social contract. In short, I don’t want a dog, but lots of others around here do."
