I'm a current 7th grade student here at Benson Middle School. We have had the opportunity to attend other schools in the area and clearly this school needs help! For most of my classes the lessons are behind from what I have learned at other schools in 6th grade, here we are given 2hrs to complete a 25 question test? HaHa... If you just apply yourself and do the minimum basics you will be an outstanding student at this school with the standards being so low, it's like a Joke. Benson Middle School doesn't offer anything other sports ( Football, Baseball & Track ) football field is horrible, not real track or equipment. Music classes have been canceled because the teacher quit last year and no funds for replacement, Theater was available last year but only because of parent funding, Lunches are again very basic on the border of healthy and repetitive, weekly. And this year we were just surprised with 2 teachers go out on medical and 1 quit so now we have people filling the spots that have no clue whats going on! =) I don't know whose really in charge at this school but they need to be evaluated for lack of providing proper a proper education.

Benson Elementary School is a good example of lack of community and town support stacked with county and lack of state funding. Our children are attending Benson Elementary, they love the atmosphere and positive vibe. As parents that are involved with our children we see teachers trying and mostly succeeding in educating with the tools they have. Although some tools are outdated. But on the flipside teachers are leaving for different career choices. The new principal Mrs Dunston is making positive changes but without the support of others it a very hard battle and the education suffers.

My school goes above and beyond. Mr. Price is by far the best principal I have ever had. he always makes the students feel welcomed and accepted. I love the POWER schedule and all the time we have to study and catch up on whatever we need to or just hang out with friends after all the work is done. South Johnston High School is one of the best schools to go to because of the many opportunities and extra curricular activities offered. I wouldn't want to be anything else besides a SJHS Trojan!
