Our experience with the high ability programming has been very disappointing. While the district may identify students as high ability, the actual programming and placement options do not seem to consistently meet the needs of advanced learners.There appears to be limited flexibility for students who are ready for more rigorous coursework, especially when scheduling or capacity becomes an issue. Instead of finding appropriate academic options, families may be left feeling like their child is being held back by the system. For students who are capable of high school-level or advanced coursework earlier, the process for placement, appeals, and reconsideration is not clear or supportive enough. In our experience, CGMSC administration has not been supportive or solution-focused when concerns about appropriate placement have been raised.High ability students need more than just a label. They need meaningful access to appropriately challenging classes, transparent placement criteria, and a district that is willing to individualize when a student is clearly ready for more. Based on our experience, the current high ability programming falls short.

Our family could not be happier with this elementary school. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and focused on children’s growth and well-being. The teachers are truly exceptional—caring, dedicated, and highly skilled at making learning fun and engaging. They take the time to know each student personally, which helps every child feel valued and supported.The school’s leadership is strong and approachable, always keeping families informed and involved. Communication is excellent, and you can tell that the staff genuinely wants the best for every student. Beyond academics, the school places a wonderful emphasis on character, kindness, and respect.We are grateful to be part of such a positive and supportive school community. I would highly recommend walnut grove elementary school to any family looking for a place where their child will be challenged, cared for, and inspired every single day.
