There are many caring, dedicated teachers at Ben Franklin Elementary, and many of them have been there for years. The school itself is clean, well-maintained, and located in a nice neighborhood. Unfortunately, in my experience, the biggest issue with the school is the principal.I have found her to be dismissive of parents, condescending toward staff, and difficult to trust. What is especially frustrating is the lack of accountability when concerns are raised. It’s a new school year, and I have already felt the need to bring concerns to the district. Unfortunately, it seems like complaints are simply being brushed aside. I also know I’m not the only parent who has had concerns.What is most disappointing is being made to feel that if you don’t like how things are handled, your options are essentially to homeschool or leave the school. That should not be the response a parent receives from a school principal.Parents deserve a principal who is honest, approachable, respectful, transparent, and genuinely committed to the students, families, and staff. The teachers deserve supportive leadership, and the families deserve to have their concerns heard rather than dismissed.There is a lot of potential at this school, and the teachers are a huge part of what makes it a good place. I just wish the leadership reflected the same level of care and integrity.
