We moved to Springfield for the 2024-2025 school year and my daughter attended 7th and 8th grade here before moving on the Central High School. Westport Middle was just okay in my opinion. I would consider my daughter an average student that doesn’t really need extra help. The course work seemed boring and convoluted. She was able to do the work and pass classes but there seemed to be no passion/creativity in the coursework. Lots of Chromebook usage. At one point she said they weren’t learning any social studies curriculum because they didn’t have an actual teacher, just a permanent substitute. She tried to play basketball 8th grade year and ended up having to have games and practice over at Pipkin which created extra hassle for her and us. She was bummed about it. I felt like I never really knew her teachers or what they were learning in class even with the constant assignment reminders from their portal thing. In conclusion, our experience was mediocre at best. It will get the job done but nothing to brag about.
