4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSo far our experience has been underwhelming. School started two weeks ago but they’re not learning anything yet, just going over endless rules. And they don’t offer gate for gifted students, just one accelerated math class. My child does like their teachers, at least.Another thing— our first communications from the outgoing principal were all about sixth grade camp the week of September 20th, and the kids were excited for that. However the incoming principal has just announced there will be no sixth grade camp (no explanation) and we did not even get a chance to fundraise to try to make it happen. It’s disappointing since my child’s peers at higher-income schools will get to go. And it makes me feel less excited about participating in fundraising events for the school since they didn’t want use funds for camp. Combined with the lack of learning and the campus being all torn up from construction, it just hasn’t been a great start to the school year for these kids.Parent Review10mo ago42 Reviews - San Diego High School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter is going into her sophomore year at SDHS. We weren’t sure what to expect last year, but we were so pleasantly surprised at how engaged SDHS staff are with the students. The school has a very active ASB, which my daughter is now a part of, and also has many student-led clubs, many of which focus on community service. She was also able to opt into the MedTech track, which is providing her opportunities to have real-life experience in medical venues across the county- they took a field trip to the “brain lab” in the spring! The student body is engaged in the athletics programs as well as having IB opportunities that remain available, we came from IB elementary and middle, so this was important. AP Spanish is on her schedule for this year, which is an incredible option for a 10th grader. The teachers and counselors have been responsive whenever I have reached out. I feel confident in sending my child to SDHS- and plan to have her younger sister attend as well. We are very happy there and see it as our best fit for her launch into college in a few more years.Parent Review10mo ago6 Reviews - Golden Hill K-8

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur daughter is finishing her TK year at this school, and we’ve had a wonderful experience. She loves her teachers, has made great friends, and is excited to go to school each day. The principal does a great job keeping families informed and involved through programs like “Family Fridays,” where parents can visit campus, hear school updates, and spend time reading in the classroom with their child. We’ve also been impressed with the Spanish immersion program and how quickly our child's confidence and knowledge have grown this year. She’s even reading, which we did not expect at the start of TK. She especially loves getting to participate in music and art each week.Overall, we are happy with our experience and recommend this school.Parent Review1mo ago24 Reviews - Check out schools near 2850 E St.

"Tons of schools in walking range. Seems family friendly. During the day there aren’t many unhoused people but at night there are some people who seem unwell who surface. "

"It’s growing at an alarming rate! There are condos replacing houses on every available space. Parking is a nightmare, and people who have lived here for years are heading out!"

"This neighborhood has changed a great deal in the last 10 years. Golden Hill is a cute little community. Parking can be a hassle and there is a noticeable increase in the homeless population...but this is not uncommon in most major cities. We have easy access the best of the city’s entertainment, Balboa Park, awesome food venues and freeways. "

"It’s a alright neighborhood but a lot of homeless and the parking is fine but there has been many construction that has made it very tedious."

"Great area for young adults with plenty of restraints in walking distance. Roads are horrendous right now due to all the gas line work in the area. Which also affects parking for now. "

"Hipsters. Yuppies. Bums. Lots and lots of homeless. Don’t bother moving here. I have homeless people sleep on the porch of my house and then try to assault me when I tell them to leave. "

"Not many kids. Sherman academy is a horrible school. Have to be rich to live here and have kids. Don’t bother unless you’re young and single. "
